Mykarvey (Mike Harvey) on SoundBetter

From recording backgrounds for Steely Dan to singing on the R&B soundtrack of the TV show Empire, Mykarvey is the go-to singer when you want an artist with versatility.

I've sung on albums for artists that include Ricky Martin, Steely Dan, Matthew Morrison, Luther Vandross, and the TV show Empire, to name a few. I'm able to sing a variety of styles to compliment and enhance your song/project. Whether it's experimental for soundtracks/EDM or soulful pop, I offer professional vocals for your project: dry, uncompressed, with no eq so that you may have complete control of your mix/production. I'm also great with harmonies, background vocals, arrangement, and vocal production. I'm a perfectionist and I work closely with you until you get exactly what you want. And I love it!

Send me an email through 'Contact' button above and I'll get back to you asap.

Mike... is a dream come true.
When I heard his demos I knew he was the right man for my song and he seriously is!
As I told him he transformed my "pumpkin with mice" into a "carrier with horses".
He took care of all vocal harmonies totally respectful of the original melody yet adding a precious lot to the song. Really I could not be happier than this, all my gratitude and respect for his work.
    Can't wait to return!

Once again, Myk delivered and went above and beyond with some backing vocals I requested for a pop song. His vocals, as well as his collaborator Yvonne's, were on point. You won't be disappointed.

I am beyond satisfied with Mike's work. Not only did he take care of the backing vocals and harmonies for himself, but he also recorded and arranged a fantastic female singer, Yvonne. The results were beyond my expectations. He really took my song to the next level! Not only that, but he was able to address a minor detail in the recording within minutes. Highly recommended! Can't wait to work together again.

Mike is a true professional and has an incredible range and voice. He demonstrated tremendous creativity and worked with me on lots of tricky edits to get the song just right. I would highly recommend Mike if you're looking for a serious vocalist on your project.

I’ve had the pleasure of working with Mike Harvey in many projects over the past 20+ years. Mike has a high respect here in the NYC music and session scene. He is a professional in every sense of the word. He is dynamic, versatile and highly creative. He has done some intense vocal arrangements that have blown people’s minds to very simple vocal melodies that will bring out an emotions. I have always been a fan of Mikes songwriting and love the opportunity to work with him when I can. If you are looking to work with a unique all around musician then you found him.

Mike is talented, reliable.. and versatile! I've hired him as a singer, arranger and producer for years, and he delivers time and time again.

He's been a lead vocalist for me, and has also recruited and managed vocalists, rapped, and harmonized. He can deliver tracks, or provide a finished product. Always on time, and always high quality.

Mike is the professional producer's dream!

Mike Harvey is a legendary vocalist, and I can say that because I've worked with legends for over 30 years. We still miss him in New York, but now you can have him work with you on your music. Hire him now if you want the best. Ten stars

Interview with Mykarvey (Mike Harvey)

  1. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  2. A: Certainly! This one's an easy one: when vocals are being doubled (or more), generally ALWAYS pan one left and the other right. It will make a much better, impactful sound than having them just 'center'.

  3. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  4. A: I am all over the place with that answer!!! Just this past week, I 1) sang lead on a classic soul type song. 2) did background arrangements for an EDM song 3) sang lead AND backgrounds (and arranged) on a pop song 4) had to sound like a '40s style crooner on a jazz song And that's just this past week! So it's safe to say that I work on a variety of musically diverse projects consistently.

  5. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  6. A: Creating harmonies, counterpoint lines, and being diverse/flexible.

  7. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  8. A: I bring the unique experience of having sung on multiple platforms for vastly different artists and genres. I started off singing in the church like many African Americans. But my experiences expanded from working with different artists from around the world, changing my sound and adding to my vocal "vocabulary". I bring these unique experiences and creativity to a project.

  9. Q: What's your typical work process?

  10. A: If I sing a lead on an original, I initially replace the guide vocal with me doing a new guide vocal. Then I start listening to my new guide, figuring out how to make it sound better (no shameless website pun intended). If it's to sing, produce, and arrange backgrounds, I like to listen to the song for a whole day so that I can know it backwards and forwards. Then layer by layer, I start adding what I hear that will enhance the artist's voice and the song's message. The final step is editing and getting rid of what is not needed.

  11. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  12. A: My studio setup is very simple. I use Logic on a MacBook pro with an Apogee Duet. My mic is a Neumann TLM 103 and my mic pre amp is a Universal Audio 610. That's it!

  13. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  14. A: Quincy Jones, George Martin, Stevie Wonder, PJ Morton, Laura Mvula, Tobe Nwigwe, Wynton Marsalis, Marcus Miller, Mervyn Warren, David Foster, Kendrick Lamar, Mykal Kilgore, Luther Vandross, Donny Hathaway, The Clark Sisters, Bonnie Raitt, & Sarah Vaughan to name a few.

  15. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  16. A: I get called to sing lead AND backgrounds due to my ears for arranging and producing.
