Kim Fleuchaus on SoundBetter

I'm a Chicago-based flute player with 25+ years experience, a gorgeous professional sound and a wide variety of ethnic flutes on hand to find the perfect voice for your project. Have a listen and give me a shout!

Whether you are looking for a nay player to get that perfect Middle Eastern sound for your project, or just need some killer classical flute chops recorded with professionalism and a quick turnaround -I've got what you need. Maybe you aren't even sure what sound you are looking for - I love to work with musicians to create that missing part that will turn the track from good to great!

I've played all kinds of flutes for film, radio, live performances, Sufi meditation marathons, retro funk bands and more - and I'd love to hear about your project.

I am a classically trained flute player (BM - Northwestern) with a masters degree in Ethnomusicology and a specialization in Middle Eastern Music.

While I do most of my session work from my home studio, I have relationships with engineers and other sessions musicians around the city of Chicago who can handle almost any sized project.

Instruments Available:
Classical : C Flute, Alto Flute, Bass Flute, Piccolo,
Sopranino, Soprano, and Alto recorder
Traditional: Penny whistles, Egyptian Nay (Ney), Dizi, Xiao, Quena / Kena, Native American flutes, bamboo flutes, and many more.

I can also provide a high-quality transcription of my recording.

Kim is a high-level pro and a delight to work with.

I’m a film score composer, and while most of my scores use midi/sampled instruments, I like to supplement with live players.

And in Kim, I have found my flute player! Kim made getting amazing live flute tracks so easy!

Kim's musical skills are off the charts and practically other-worldly. It's the second time we have worked together - and each time I'm just mesmerised by her beautiful flute playing that is very much a quintessential work of art. Kim communicates frequently and politely, delivers precisely what's required and well within the deadline. She is the most incredibly gifted performer who deserves 10 stars on here for having such amazing musical mastery. Thank you for the pleasure again, Kim!

Kim was very professional and quick with providing me recordings for my project. She was also nice enough to record an additional part I requested after the fact. Highly recommended if you're looking for a very lyrical solo flute.

Kim's exceptional skills in playing the flute were simply outstanding for my project. With some very difficult parts to play, Kim rose to the challenge and provided an excellent array of masterful takes that were beautifully performed, giving the whole track the most amazing sonic aura. Kim's commitment and communication was absolutely top level, with her recordings delivered well before the deadline. I loved working with Kim as she's a truly wonderful person too - 100% highly recommended!!

Kim is an extraordinary musician and a wonderful collaborator with a broad and deep knowledge of many musical styles. She has always made my compositions better with her kind and insightful suggestions, and her flawless performances. I'm very particular with my music, but it's easy to trust Kim with my compositions because I know she has a wonderfully creative mind, an exceptional work ethic and a very high standard of musicianship. Her work is reliably and consistently excellent. I highly recommend her.

Having been a composer in the commercial music industry for nearly three decades, I have worked with hundreds of instrumentalists on various scores of mine. Kim's playing goes so far beyond what I would call just "a great musician". Kim's unique abilities put her in the category of a true artist. She is one of the most lyrical players I've ever collaborated with, but what makes Kim truly amazing is her musical intuition. She's able to go further than the notes on the page. She turns those notes into performances that mesmerize not just the listener, but the composer who wrote the music.

Interview with Kim Fleuchaus

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: Now that live music has been relegated to the home due to COVID-19 I'm exploring new ways of making digital music remotely with the bands that I usually perform live with. It's a fun challenge to get us through challenging times!

  3. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  4. A: Especially with traditional ethnic styles - understand how the instrument sounds in its cultural context first, so that your finished project can sound as authentic as possible.

  5. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  6. A: I found my calling early - at age 8 I knew I wanted to play flute for the rest of my life. The path that took me on has been quite different than I imagined, but I love that I've found a way to combine my interest in other cultures, languages and music with my career as a classical musician. I've been at it almost 30 years now and it's still evolving - but I love that I get to live in both the classical world and the "trad" world, and feel at home in both.

  7. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  8. A: Typically I am sent backing tracks and I then either create a flute part to complement it, or I am given sheet music to play or rough guidelines and timings to work with.

  9. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  10. A: My work is split pretty evenly between classical and ethnic flutes. I love working on film scores and with musicians who are passionate and excited about their projects - whatever the style.
