Michał Kołowacik on SoundBetter

We can talk for hours about technical stuff, but it is the idea followed with the right way of work which makes the job done. My experience tells that on all levels of studio work there is a place for necessary exploration, both creative and technical. The goal is to find what is best in the idea and make it happen.

I am Michał Kołowacik, sound engineer & designer with experience on both sides of the mixing desk, either live or studio. In 2021 I have established Anturium.Studio sound gallery, focused on sound design, libraries, mix and mastering services.

  10. A: I love the mix of so many areas, such as engineering, creativity, artistic sensibility and taste. The variety of possibilities and creating musical work that is somehow intangible

  11. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  12. A: I started my career in the year 2011 as a Live Sound Engineer in my hometown community centre. In parallel I began music production as Echo Deal, making music for rappers and singers. In the year 2014 I made Totem EP which was my official debut album. In 2015 I started playing improvising live acts based on bass music and creating dub structures

  16. A: Intuition gives the best results

  17. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  18. A: It is very important to put a song into a certain environment and to use a natural reverb. That's why I put effort in using air and space. Also, I love to use elements from the background to give a certain taste

  19. Q: What's your typical work process?

  20. A: First I get the idea of sound picture - what gives the emotional impact and what would support leading parts. Then I select tools and start exploration to emphasize the most important elements and make the other ones specified in the context. Next step is to mix up classical techniques with ones that I made up during the "messing around". These parts are permeating and mixing with each other - often I get back to the start to verify my steps and find the best solution.

  21. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  22. A: Every level of Sound Engineering, Mixing & Mastering, Sound Design, Music Production, Restoration
