Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

A: I typically do a lot of production, taking songs in voice memos or demos and turning them into full-fledged tracks with dynamic, high-quality instruments and musical elements. I also mix and master, so by the time we’re done your song is radio-ready! I can help write melodies and lyrics, expanding on certain concepts you bring to me or writing over a track. I’ve recorded lead vocals and background vocals on lot of projects, and I have a lot of experience with vocal comping and pitching, since I produce all my own music.

Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

A: I've been writing songs since I was in 4th grade, and producing since 6th grade. I auditioned and was accepted to a high school for performing and visual arts, working in the music production division. I continued this path to George Mason University, where I also study Music Technology. I've released 14 original songs and racked up over 100,000 Spotify streams under the name Jessica Taylor. I've been doing music commissions since 2019 and found that I really enjoy working in this field and getting to know and collaborate with other artists! As for my personal career, I released my first EP in March of 2022. Right now I'm working on releasing more singles and eventually, an album!

Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

A: I use a MacBook Pro running Logic Pro X. My audio interface is a Focusrite Solo and my speakers are 5" KRK Classic 5s. For a microphone I use a Blue Bluebird, and my keyboard is a Yamaha YPG-535.

Q: What do you bring to a song?

A: I bring years of professional experience songwriting and producing. Many people say the things I make sound like they should be on the radio. Being 19, I also bring a youthful perspective to songs that will appeal to newer generations.

Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

A: I promise I'll work hard to capture your artistic vision and create a quality product filled with emotion! I'll take your feedback and revise it as many times as you need to get it sounding exactly how you want.

Q: What do you like most about your job?

A: I love getting to express emotions that people can relate to. Or, if they can't relate, making them consider a different point of view. Music reminds me that, no matter how you feel, you're not alone. I also just like making songs people can dance to. My favorite songs always put me in a good mood, so if I can do that for other people, it's awesome!

Q: What are you working on at the moment?

A: My personal project at the moment is an album that I'm writing, singing, and producing myself.

Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

A: What's the vibe you're going for? Do you have a song or artist that you want the sound to resemble? What's the driving idea or concept at the heart of the song?

Q: How would you describe your style?

A: I switch it up a lot. I can do heartfelt, emotional ballad, or catchy, danceable pop tune. Recently I've been into anything groovy and feel-good. Lyric-wise, I've written many songs with a clear central message or even a plot, like a girl dealing with unrequited love or a family dealing with loss. However, I can also do more abstract lyrics that convey a feeling like wistfulness through imagery and the connotation of certain words.

Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

A: I primarily work on pop music with elements of R&B, electronica, funk, and rock.

Q: What's your typical work process?

A: I can start with anything: lyrics, melody, chords, or even a weird production idea. I usually develop everything kind of at the same time, especially when dealing with lyrics and melody. As long as I have a solid foundation or idea I'm going for, I can work with it.

Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

A: Independent artists that make music in their bedrooms and garages like Still Woozy and Cavetown inspire me. I also really enjoy clean, tight, groovy songs by BENEE and the intricate lyrics and melodies of Samia.
