Andres Crovetti on SoundBetter

Having performed multiple sold-out shows at legendary Chicago venues, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and composer Andrés Crovetti is deeply experienced in all facets of music making, from composing & arranging, live tracking, performing instrumental parts, mixing, mastering, tour management, education, stage presence & overall performance notes.

Music, in all its facets, has been my life for most of my life. I am a keyboardist, percussionist, and drummer by trade, having performed on many recordings and in live settings, including touring the country full time. After many years as a sideman, I ventured into the world of writing and recording my own music, which led to further collegiate study in audio production. Producing recorded works of music is my highest priority, and I love using my deep musical experience and toolkit to participate support in whatever ways are necessary.

Andres mixed an EP for my New Acoustic trio and did a fantastic job. He was professional, organized, and accommodating. Even when we had special requests, he was more than willing to find the sound we were looking for. We were thrilled with the mixes and so happy to have been able to work with him on the project.

Interview with Andres Crovetti

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I am proud of the Beat Tape I released October 2, 2020. I did everything for that project (producing, recording instrumental performances, sampling, mixing, mastering, album art, promo videos), and also felt I struck the balance between attention to detail and not spending unnecessarily high amounts of time nitpicking each tune, all while dealing with the COVID pandemic.

  3. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  4. A: What are your visions for this project, how can I assist you in achieving them? What is your communication style and preferred way of communicating?

  5. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  6. A: I've been a professional musician all of my adult life. Following my instincts and passions to pursue various aspects of music that intrigue me have led to many incredible experiences, from performing and touring full time, to collegiate study in performance, teaching privately, studying audio production and recording techniques, working in music stores, leading my own bands, and making music with friends and colleagues. I still feel there is a lifetime's worth of study and exploration to be done. Let's do it!

  7. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  8. A: Monitor across many volume levels!

  9. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  10. A: Effective communication. I love establishing clear boundaries and expectations, and communicating needs. This is a two-way street between clients and myself, which allows for both technical and emotional needs to be cared for and met in whatever ways necessary to facilitate a comfortable and enjoyable music making process.

  11. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  12. A: I bring an openness to creativity and new ideas, and the goal of self actualization. I want to assist in enacting an artistic vision that brings the fullness of one's being and character. Rather than tying myself to any one approach or genre or workflow, my strongest asset is radical acceptance and flexibility to "read the room" and meet the needs of a project.

  13. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  14. A: Ryuichi Sakamoto has such a multifaceted, prolific, and inspiring career. From synth-pop and electro pop, collaborations, ambient music, and film scoring, he has made a lifetime's worth of music that provides consistent motivation, and rewarding study.
