Interview with LeeLoo
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That professional level singers work for free. We don't.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Bluesy, gritty, powerful and soulful.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Pop rock, hard rock, prog rock, metal, jazz, blues, funk, alternative, pop and classical.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Finding connection to the music presented and interpreting it based on any directions the artist has given me, as well as, creating what I feel in the moment. I always ask questions if I have any, and value communication from my client.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I am proud of an album I wrote and recorded with an original band, called Lure of the Animal. I was the lead singer, backing singer, lyricist, vocal composer and arranger, and did collaboration on the overall composition of the songs.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: A rock EP, and an original blues/rock album.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise high quality, honesty, transparency and good communication.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Being able to express myself creatively while collaborating with others' ideas to ultimately have something to say.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: How long will it take to complete the project? Answer: up to a few days before our agreed deadline day.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Do you have a theme you are going for? Specific examples or songs or singers that you like for this project? What kind of style do you prefer? Do you have a deadline? Do you already have lyrics and a melody, or would you like me to write them for you?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Be as specific as possible about what you would like, and the direction you want to go in. The more detail the better.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: knife, flint, iodine tablets, antibiotics, clothing
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: More than 17 years. In earlier to tour and perform in bands, later to work solely in music to earn a living, and now expanding my career as a sessions vocalist.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Amy Lee from Evanescence to learn and understand her interpretation of composition, since she combines classical elements with rock and electronica.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Communication is key.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Attention to detail, following directions, and improvisation.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring dynamic to the song. I specialize in power-singing using a high belt range, and if the genre is heavier, I can add edgy dynamics like, grit and compression, scream layers and so on. I can also bring a ligher, airier, more haunting quality to the music, as I have high agility and flexibility, and can sing complex R&B style riffs and I am classically trained as well.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have an acoustically treated studio, with a Neumann TLM102 condensor mic, a Shure KSM27 condensor mic, and M-Audio M-track II interface, Beyerdynamic PRO headphones, and Acoustica Mixcraft 9 DAW workstation.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Singers like Chris Cornell and Amy Lee inspire me.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I write and record lead vocals, backing vocals, lyrics, melodies, and harmonies in multiple genres such as rock, pop, jazz, blues, alternative and metal.
