Interview with Bial HClap
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: One of the projects I’m most proud of is producing the “Sierra Madre Remix,” where I blended son jarocho, native instruments, rap and world music. I collaborated with artists like Noé González (Los Cojolites), Héctor Guerra, Danger and DJ Kay Fear, creating a powerful track that carries a strong ecological and cultural message. Another milestone was performing with Mariachi México Lindo at Sisyphos, Berlin, where I brought this fusion of tradition and electronic music to an international stage.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I’m currently producing my new EP of ambient music, at the same time Im working in a new album about world and electronic music, blending ancestral instruments with modern sound design. At the same time, I’m working on collaborations with international artists in Mexico, USA, Japan and Germany and preparing remixes for Latin and world music projects while touring across Europe and the Americas.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: At the moment I don’t personally know other providers on SoundBetter, but I value collaboration and would be glad to recommend trusted professionals once I connect with them through the platform. My priority is always helping clients find the right talent for their project.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I mainly work digital, because it gives me the flexibility to produce, mix, and master anywhere in the world with a mobile studio. Today’s plugins and interfaces deliver amazing quality, and the workflow is faster and more collaborative. That said, I love incorporating analog textures and traditional instruments to add warmth and character that digital alone can’t provide.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: My promise is to deliver music that not only sounds professional and polished, but also reflects your unique identity and vision. I commit to clear communication, high-quality production, and a collaborative process until you’re fully satisfied with the result.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: What I love most is transforming an idea into a finished song guiding it from a simple melody or beat into something powerful that connects with people and their hearts. I also enjoy blending cultural roots with modern sounds, creating music that feels both innovative and deeply human.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Most customers ask: “Can you make my track sound professional and ready for release?” My answer: Absolutely. With over 20 years of experience in production, mixing, and mastering, I make sure every song has clarity, punch, and identity, ready for streaming platforms, sync, clubs, or radio.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Many people think music production is just “making beats” or pushing buttons. In reality, it’s about guiding the entire creative process shaping sound, arranging, mixing, and bringing out the artist’s identity. A good producer is not just technical support, but a partner in turning ideas into powerful songs.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I usually ask: What’s your vision and goal for the song streaming, club, or sync? Which artists or tracks inspire the sound you’re aiming for? Do you have a demo, lyrics, or stems ready, or are we starting from cero? What emotions or story do you want the music to convey?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Look for someone who not only has technical skills but also understands your vision and identity as an artist. A good producer should be able to translate your ideas into a professional sound while bringing creativity and clarity to the process. Communication is key the best results happen when the artist and producer work as a team.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: I’d take my MacBook Pro with Ableton Live, an RME Babyface Pro FS interface, my Sennheiser HD599 headphones, a Push controller for creativity, and a good condenser mic to capture voices and natural sounds from the island. With those five, I could produce, mix, master, and keep creating anywhere.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started over 20 years ago in the underground hip hop scene of Guadalajara, Mexico, producing beats and collaborating with local rappers. Over time, my sound evolved into a fusion of hip hop, word and electronic music, leading me to work with artists like Pato Machete, Dr. Shenka, and Toy Selectah. I’ve released music on international labels, toured across Europe, Asia, and the Americas, and built a career as both a producer and live DJ.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style is a fusion of electronic music and ancestral sounds. I blend hip hop, world music and electronic music with traditional instruments and cultural textures, creating tracks that are both danceable and deeply rooted. It’s modern, emotional, and global.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I’d love to collaborate with Santa Fe Klan or Natalia Lafourcade, because they push Latin music into new global directions while embracing tradition. On the electronic side, Quantic or Branko inspire me for their ability to merge ancestral sounds with modern beats, a vision very close to my own. Working with them would be the perfect space to create music that feels both timeless and contemporary.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Less is more. Instead of adding layers, focus on choosing the right sounds and giving them space. A strong groove, clean mix, and one element with real emotion often say more than 20 tracks competing for attention.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually work on hip hop, cumbia, world and electronic music. Many of my projects involve blending electronic production with Latin urban and ancestral sounds, creating a unique bridge between tradition and modern music.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is bringing identity and emotion to a track. I excel at blending powerful beats, deep bass line with organic textures, ensuring the mix is technically solid while keeping the soul of the music alive. This balance between clarity, groove, and cultural depth makes my productions stand out.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring a unique fusion of modern production and ancestral sounds. My strength is combining hip hop, world and electronic music with textures from traditional instruments, creating tracks that feel both contemporary and deeply rooted. I focus on giving each song clarity, energy, and identity, so it connects with audiences worldwide.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I start by understanding the artist’s vision — references, goals, and emotions behind the song. From there, I create the foundation with beats, harmonies, or arrangements, then develop the full production step by step. Once the structure is solid, I move into detailed sound design, mixing, and finally mastering. Throughout the process, I keep close communication with the client, sharing updates and revisions until the track feels ready for release.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work from a professional mobile home studio centered around a MacBook Pro M2, RME Babyface Pro FS interface, and Sennheiser HD599 headphones, Genelec Monitors, complemented by iLoud Micro Monitors. I produce creative ideas mainly in Ableton Live 12 and post production in Cubase 10, using industry-standard plugins from Waves and Plugin Alliance. This setup allows me to deliver high-quality production, mixing, and mastering anywhere in the world.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I’m inspired by artists who blend tradition with innovation, like Branko for his global electronic vision, Nicola Cruz for his fusion of ancestral sounds and modern beats, and Quantic for his organic approach to cumbia and world music. I also admire pioneers like Celso Piña and Los Mirlos, who shaped Latin sounds that I now reinterpret through electronic music.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I specialize in music production, remixing, mixing, and mastering across genres like hip hop, world, and electronic music. Most of my clients hire me to take their songs from demo to polished release, including full arrangements, beat production, and final mixes that are ready for streaming and live performance.
