Interview with Cruz Kvanh

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: Lakesabe's project is one of my fav project. She's so talented. it's a crossover between electronic music and hiphop. I co-produced with her, mixed and masterised all the project. With this project we want music with big texture, big sound, feels like a movie. There is a lot of classical orchestrations with violons and brass on it. The project coming late 2021 and I realy hope that people will enjoy it.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Not yet.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Both, analog for recording is awesome, and digital is awesome two because you can create your own textures.

  10. A: I'll always do my best for you wathever the price you pay.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: Creativity and share Love trought music.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: The most commonly question is "How much it cost to work with you ?"" and usually I respond with "it depends on what you want me doing for you"

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: I'm not a dj...

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: How can I help You ?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: My advice will be to look for an engineer who listen them, and choose the one who work hard, do test, to bring there music to the top.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: A macbook pro, one Midi Keyboar, my fav soundcard, a very good pair of earphones, and my fav Mic.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I was training and certified at the SAE Institute in Paris, I learn a lot there especially with there internsheep program for the sound engineer diploma. After I started has a sound engineer in the Cognac Jay TV studio's in Paris, stayed there 3 years and 7 years ago I started my freelance career.

  28. A: At this moment Björk, I think she's a real genius, she brings art to an other level.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Rules number one : There is no rules has you respect the dynamics of the sound and the clients expectations. Rules number two : Always work hard on your frequency plan when your are producing, composing music.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Pop, HipHop

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: My strongest skill are the mixing, and mastering has a sound engineer. I'm not a big fan of recording. Has a producer my strongest skill is that my music sounds like a big movie OST. A lot projects I worked on at this moment have that big brass and big rythm atmosphere, that's why a lot of my clients are nicknamed me "Cruz Zimmer" :-)

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: After the SAE Institute I started has a TV Broadcast engineer, so I'm a big fan of dynamics. I love when the sound breathe and sounds loud, so I think my work has a mix engineer is to bring the sound there. Has a producer, composer, I bring the artist where he wants but with my skills, the ame is to go further.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: My typical work process is first, listen what the client wants from me. After listening the tracks or the demos, I'm telling the clients what are my ideas, then we exange a lot, and starting the real work. For mastering its more simple usually my clients send me the track and they got it on the day or the day after.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: My studio is mostly a "In the Box system", I use to work in ProTools but since few years I do all my works on Logic pro X.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I grow up with the French Touch area, the musicians who inspired me the most are Daft Punk. I love hip-hop too so Kanye West, Timbaland, Pharell are important too... Also I'm a big fan of 80's producers like Niles Rodger, Quincy Jones. If you want to hear my inspiration you can listen my Spotify playlist called "Teachers"

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: I do a lot of mixing and mastering work, but since few years now I'm specialised in music arrangement, and producing.
