Excellent trax Ben. Very timely response and just what I needed.
it was a pleasure working with Ben. He did a great job in a very short amount of time with the drum track. I will definitely use him again for other projects. Thanks Ben
Wonderful job from Ben. Thanks, man
Great working with Ben. He totally got the sound I was looking for and delivered a lovely drum track.
Ben did a great job of putting together the exact groove and feel I was looking for. He provided clean discrete tracks of all his drum parts. Very easy to work with and a pleasure.
Ben created a great drum part for my track!
He delivered more than was expected with a good sense for production.
Ben is an excellent drummer for both live and recorded gigs. I’ve worked with him as a singer in live settings and can say he is the most professional and good-spirited musician in the room!
Interview with Ben Pham
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Chill, groovy
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Tom Misch - Love his music!
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: If you want your song to GROOVE, don't quantize everything. The pocket and human feel is created by not having everything quantize all the time.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I like working on challenging instrumental material to challenge myself. I always like to push the boundaries of my instrument so that when I play simple stuff, it looks and sounds easy and groovin.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring the energy, groove and pocket: The drums baby!
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: First I have the client describe to me exactly what they want and send me the tracks they want drums on. I like to get samples of what they want the drums to sound like, to get ideas. I then send an initial take and then from there, I can edit if there needs to be changes.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio setup is Scarlett Focusrite 18i20, Logic Pro X, Waves Plugins, PDP Maple Drums, DW and Ludwig Snare Drums, Zildjian/Meinl/Bliss/UFIP Cymbals, Yamaha DTX. For Microphones I have Shure Beta 52 Kick, Shure SM57 Snare, AudioTechnica AT2035 Overheads, Shure PG Tom Mics.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Some of my favorite musicians include: Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones, Bruno Mars, Tom Misch, MoonChild, Stevie Wonder, Robert Glasper, Esperanza Spalding... and so much more!
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I do mostly live acoustic drum tracking and programmed drumming for my clients. Songs vary by genre as I have done R+B, Pop, Funk, Soul, Jazz and Latin songs.
