I write music that evokes vibrant and subtle shades of emotion for each project. I earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in music composition from the Yale School of Music, and my credits include commissions from top orchestras (Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra) as well as film scores (Behind Forgotten Eyes). I have 25+ years of experience.
I have a passion for movies that rivals my passion for music! The magical, dream-like quality of so many films has inspired me as a composer, perhaps more than anything else. I like working in close collaboration with directors to create music that perfectly complements their video or film. I am most adept at scoring thrillers, dramas, and documentaries, but I am always open to other genres.
I have expertise in composing and arranging for these instruments/sound worlds/ensembles:
-Orchestral (Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Albany Symphony)
-Contemporary Classical (NOW Ensemble)
-Solo Piano (Michael Mizrahi)
-Chamber Ensemble (Behind Forgotten Eyes)
I also have experience with:
-Sound design and electronic music
-Collaboration with artists from different genres (Rounder Songs with Emily Pinkerton)
-Rock/pop music
I wrote the title track for Awake, recorded by my ensemble—NOW Ensemble—which reached the #1 spot for classical music in iTunes, and #2 on Amazon’s classical charts. Emily Pinkerton and I won an Independent Music Award for the album Rounder Songs. My music has been featured multiple times on New Sounds with John Schaefer, among other radio shows and podcasts.
My music has been called "indie-classical at its finest" (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette) and "glittering fun... at once sophisticated and instantly accessible" (Third Coast Digest).

Interview with Patrick Burke
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I admire so many, but I'm particularly inspired by musicians from the pop world who cross over to the cinematic realm: Jonny Greenwood (Radiohead), Mica Levy (Micachu and the Shapes), and Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails).
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Writing music for their films or shows! Depending on the instrumentation and budget, I can often perform, record, and produce the music myself.
