I've now used Martin on 4-5 jobs. Great communication and a pleasure to collaborate with. Gifted player and great melodic sense. My "go-to" for smart, heavy-but-hummable riffs.

A special talent.Martin over-delivered on options and brought creative, out-of-the box parts I never could've imagined. Took the song to a total new level. If you look at his online presence, he's a next level Steve-Vai-ish shredder. But he had the versatility and open-mindedness to bend to my more classic/indie style with power and grace. A great collaboration. Five stars, at least.

Martin is the most professional, versatile and talented guitarist I have ever worked with. His good taste and technical knowledge place him at the highest level. Able to carry out any work with exquisiteness, whether in the studio or live. I have been working with him for more than 7 years on various recording projects and live shows.

Interview with Martin Etcheverry

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I had a client who wanted to do a version of a pop song called The Seed (Audio is on my profile) and it was very challenging to adapt it. Im very happy how it turned out. I re-arranged it, played guitars, produced, mixed and mastered the song.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: A client from Argentina wants a heavier version of a Spanish singer song. im also finishing my 3rd instrumental album.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Definitely Rudiger Vocals.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Both because both worlds have each its advantages.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I wont stop until you are 100% satisfied.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: Freedom

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Most of my clients are aware of my work so they know in advance what they will get. They are more concern about the turnaround and the number of reviews until they are satisfied.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: I cant think of one....

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: Everything that helps me to fully understand what the client wants. Bottom line is that no matter how happy you are with what you did, the client is the one who needs to be happy. Of course that i will bring my input and advise and production ideas to the table, and thats why you are hiring me.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Knowing what you want is always advised but also that room of uncertainty can lead to a great idea, so be open minded.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Guitar, computer, interface, headphones, cables (hoping theres electricity on the island)

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: 35+ years

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Melodic but aggressive, soulful but with attitude.

  27. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  28. A: Never overplay, always leave room for the song to breath.

  29. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  30. A: Rock, Hard Rock and Metal but i have worked on Pop, Latin and Reggae as well.

  31. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  32. A: Composition and musicality.

  33. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  34. A: My guitar skills and expertise, my feeling and soul. I approach every song as if it was my own composition, with that said, i dont leave any detail unattended.

  35. Q: What's your typical work process?

  36. A: I receive the track and specifications from client (such as sound desired or general vibe of whats needed) open a PT session and start laying down ideas. Let it sit for a few hours and come back to review everything, if im happy i send a raw mix to the client to approve or to make changes. That goes back and forth until client is 100% satisfied.

  37. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  38. A: Guitar (depending on the song i use different ones) - pedalboard - DI box - Pro Tools 12 (and any plugin necessary)

  39. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  40. A: Theres so much talent out there to just name a few, i get inspired by many different styles, im always looking for that "special edge"

  41. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  42. A: I compose, arrange, record and produce all things guitars.
