Peter Horton on SoundBetter

Mixer and Producer with a Master's degree in Songwriting & Production from Berklee College of Music. I look forward to helping you bring your vision to life!

Born and raised in Connecticut, went to college at Wesleyan University, then moved to Brooklyn where I had a band called El Niño for five years. After this I moved to Tokyo, where I began my career as a solo artist and really developed my production and mixing skills on my own music. I returned to the US in 2024 when I went to Berklee's NYC campus for graduate school in songwriting and production. I am now back in Tokyo and ready to help you bring the best out of your song.

As an artist who mixes and produces his own music, I understand how much care and effort goes into taking your song from an idea to the final product. That's why I want to take the same care and creative energy I bring to my music and help you make something you are proud to show the world. Excited to go on this journey together with you!

I specialize in indie/pop/synth music, but have experience in working with all types of music, so please feel free to reach out if you are unsure.

Terms for mixing service:
- Will deliver an unmastered 44.1kHz 24 bit mix (let me know if you need mastering - $50).
- I am happy to give as many revisions as need (within reason).
- Can deliver instrumental version and acapella version if requested.
- Can get you first pass within 5 business days.
- Stems are an extra $30 per song.

Feel free to ask any questions, I look forward to hearing from you!

Peter was great to work with! He started with a cool song, and nice drum programming ideas... He let me "do my thing" with the live drums, and the results turned out awesome--Would definitely work together again!

Interview with Peter Horton

  1. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  2. A: My promise to the client is to work on your songs like they were my own! I know how difficult it is to trust someone with your creative work, and I take that trust very seriously. I want you to be proud of the work you release to the world.

  3. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  4. A: What I like most about my job apart from the joy of making music, is taking a rough demo of a song and working away at it until the beauty of it really comes through. It's kind of like a puzzle to me - what pieces do we need, what moves can we make until it all feels whole and complete?

  5. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  6. A: The advice I would have is just to make sure that all of your tracks are ready to go before sending to me. Other than that, let me know if you have any references or goals in mind and lets get working!

  7. Q: How would you describe your style?

  8. A: I would describe my style as big and emotional. Once I have all the parts sounding good together, I like to bring out the drama of a song with reverb and delay and really try to find where I can bring a song to more emotional heights.

  9. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  10. A: I would love to work with the top producers of the 80's. The fact that they made such great songs without a lot of the technology we have nowadays - I just want to watch them work and hear the stories behind their hits!

  11. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  12. A: I usually work on indie-pop and synth-pop music, but have experience with many different genres, including rock and country.

  13. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  14. A: My strongest skill is finding what makes a song unique or special and building my mix around that creative idea that the artist has given to the song.

  15. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  16. A: What I bring to a song is my ability to adapt my style to a variety of different genres. While everyone has their own taste and preferences they bring to a song, I thrive off of the collaborative energy that comes from bringing out someone else's vision to the best of my abilities.

  17. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  18. A: Starting with my love for 80's music, Tears for Fears is a band that really inspires me, their production on the album Songs From the Big Chair is awe-inspiring to this day. For a more stripped back and live approach, I've had a lifelong obsession with The Strokes. More recently, Phoenix and The 1975 are big inspirations for their level of production.

  19. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  20. A: The most common type of work that I do is mixing, but I have just have often done producing or songwriting jobs for clients as well.
