Interview with parker collective
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I am so happy to have helped the incredible roze burke in their journey and with development of their unreleased album.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I am currently writing and producing my own EP! I am very excited by this and can't wait to release it.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: You will be happily surprised with your final product.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: It is always new and exciting. I never ever get bored. This is exactly what I want to do with my life, and I can never get enough of creating music and audio for clients!
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I am a good critical listener. I can identify the parts of good songs that make them good, and apply them to the projects I am working on. I have also spent many years of my life studying creativity and the way people respond to art. I am still learning, and I will always be, but I am inspired to always create new and amazing things.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I have some extensive systems I have developed, paying attention to the way I personally work, and from what I have learnt from professionals and people I look up to in the industry.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both have their place. I love analog compression and saturation, but I also use the whole FabFilter suite, as it is clean and incredibly reliable. Both sound beautiful in the right context.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I have a precise style that focuses on clarity. I believe good songs and good mixes don't need many elements, they just need quality elements.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to pick JPEGMAFIA's brains. His music production is unique in ways I can't even understand and I feel I would learn so much from him! I would also love to mix for Bon Iver, I don't really like his mixing but I adore his songs, it would be very interesting to try my own hand at sculpting his sound.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: No matter how important you think saturation is, it's more important than that. Also music production is not about money. It's about sounding good. There is no replacement for hard work and practice.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I specialise in Indie Electronic Pop and EDM, but have worked with many genres.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Critical listening. I am good at listening to tracks and understanding what is happening and what makes them good. I love to use this skill to grow my own abilities by understanding what my tracks and mixes lack, and what I can do to give them a leg up.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio is fully decked out with top of the line equipment. There's lots of little geeky things that I love, like my cable management, but my pride and joy are my monitors. 8 inch JBL professional 308s.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I can't get enough of Disclosure - in particular Guy. He is such a clear communicator and good teacher, I have learnt so much through watching him. Especially about processing drums!
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I do mixing and mastering of electronic indie songs for release on Spotify and all platforms. I also love music production and writing music for films and advertising.
