MAKE YOUR SOUND A REALITY | I’ll be your sonic midwife, your musical translator, your sound styler. Let’s get to the place where you are wowed, so that we can bring your listeners to that place too.

I’ve always had an intuitive sense of musical texture, how the feel of a song works with the way it sounds. Even as a kid I would pick it out in songs I heard, always going on about a guitar tone or bit of fuzz you hear on the toms. I didn’t know the names of these sounds yet. Years later, I’ve spent countless hours creating these sounds and new ones in the genre of indie pop, as well as folk, rock, and even experimental music and hyperpop.

Now, I want to take this passion and curiosity and give it all to your project. I want to curate new sounds for your songs that elevate their highest qualities.

I produce, and that can look like a lot of different things, depending on what your project needs.
-If your song lyrics need some fine-tuning, I can work through them with you line by line to add strength, clarity, and color.
-If you’re happy with the song you’ve written, but want it bigger and bolder than you can make it, I can create an arrangement that gives depth and diversity.
-If you’ve carefully recorded all the parts, but it just doesn’t sound right when you put them all together, I can help find that groove again.
-Or perhaps all you’re looking for is a brainstorming session, where we throw ideas at the wall to find your song’s heart and soul. I can do that too.

I've worked with Jonny both as a fellow songwriter swapping feedback on albums, and a producer helping me translate those songs sonically in a thoughtful way. In both arenas, he has a rare ability to understand the world you're trying to create with a song and translate that into every detail of sound design. I have always come away with some new insight, from a mix with more movement and depth to a lyric that is more cohesive. Rarest of all, he listens and cares above and beyond what's necessary – I'm often left feeling he has listened to my songs better than I have.

I've collaborated with Jonny for many years. His far-ranging experience and enthusiasm for the arts brings a lot to the table. He is always listening for new ideas, and engages delicately with other people's visions as if they were his own. Inspiration never loses its vigor with Jonny; he is concise with his input, and has an uncanny focus on the crucial elements of any given piece of work, which is sure to bring the best out of you. Beyond the great results you can expect, the collaborative process with Jonny is a joy in itself. I hope to continue working with him for years to come.

I loved working with Jonny. He has very detailed production skills and works well with diverse soundscapes. He understood my vision which I think is most important. For the song, we worked effortlessly together while he produced and played multiple instruments. He’s meticulous and skilled. Would Deffinitely recommend!

Frail Johnny lives and breathes music. He left behind a life of comfortable normalcy in order to become a full-time music life-breather. I am surprised at how one man can dedicate themselves so completely to music without tiring of it. Know that working with Frail Johnny means working with someone whose calling, whose lifeblood is music. His solo work is fabulous. According to Spotify, he was in my top listened to artists, amongst a competitive list of Kanye West, Faye Wong, Spellling, Candy Claws, and Parquet Courts. This is to say that his work packs the punches, it can stand up to a group o

Working with Jonny is an absolute pleasure. He really listened to my vision and contributed his creativity and skill until we were satisfied with the mix. He is not only a talented musician, but also a considerate and helpful collaborator. I look forward to working with him again in the future!

Interview with Frail Jonny

  1. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  2. A: I love getting to know an artist's perspective, and then getting to create something surprising yet intuitive by adding my perspective to that perspective.

  3. Q: How would you describe your style?

  4. A: As a producer, it's my job to not just have a single style, but to elevate the style of the artist. In that way, I hope to be like a chameleon, but a chameleon with a good ear! That being said, I tend towards dreamy pop that mixes sparkly synths with crunchy, dark drums.

  5. Q: What's your typical work process?

  6. A: It all starts with a conversation, learning about the artist's taste and sensibility, what their goals are, what their vision. is. I want as thorough an understanding as possible of their perspective so we can be a team and get to the place they're trying to go. Once we get into the production, the process can look quite varied depending on the exact needs of the artist. Usually it's a back and forth of sending ideas, takes, and mixes to each other until we've found that spark that ignites the record.
