Cecil Decker on SoundBetter

Hi, I'm Cecil and I tell stories with sound. My focus is helping your song say ~exactly~ what you want—whether it’s in massive club speakers, an intimate house show, or streaming from your phone.

Music is the art of storytelling through sound. My job is to listen to your story, hear your vision, and bring that into the world. I can turn demos into full productions, elevate recordings through mixing, and add the final polish with mastering.

For over 10 years, I have recorded and mixed everything from bedroom vocalists and electronic musicians to live bands and symphony orchestra. With dozens of projects shipped, I’ve worked in film, games, and installation art.

I am also an arts educator specialized in teaching music software. I love helping new & established artists learn more about the production/mixing process through private lessons.

I've worked with Cecil several times over the last 4 years. Whether for a single or a full body of work, he has been a joy to work with. He asks the right preliminary questions to make sure that the story/aura of your EP or song is captured and clearly talks you through the mixing/mastering process all the way to product send out.

I have had 1 EP and 4 singles mastered with him and am excited to collaborate with him again on future projects.

I've been fortunate enough to work with Cecil for many years, with him mixing and mastering multiple releases of mine and providing immeasurably important feedback and guidance along the way. He's never not met a deadline we've set with a polished product that I'm pleased with and excited by. His wealth of knowledge is invaluable as is his patience for students and aptitude for teaching. The only negative I've found in working with him is that once I had, I felt compelled to pull older material I'd mixed myself before working with him down--and I can hardly blame him for being that excellent.

I've worked with Cecil on almost every release I've put out in the past decade. He is the *only* engineer whose judgement I will sometimes defer to over my own, because his skillset is so broad and his ear is so refined. He hears what I am looking for and finds it and hones it.

Cecil has engineered numerous projects for me, ranging from video to narration to music. Cecil is consistent, punctual, and responsive. I have always received helpful input from Cecil, and likewise, Cecil has always been receptive to feedback. Cecil's aptitude and professionalism are both paramount, and it is always a pleasure to have Cecil involved on a project.
