Tape Mastering & Coloring

Our clientele includes Dekmantel, Beats in Space, Revenge, World of Paint Music, Magnetron, South of North, Partisan. We are experts in coloring and mastering music using different formats of tape and saturation boxes, with equipment ranging from high end cassette decks and mastering grade reel to reel machines, to 12 bit samplers.

Hi, we are Kai and Ilias. Kai is a producer and composer under the alias Palmbomen II and whose music has been featured in Grand Theft Auto 5, and Ilias is a graduate audio engineer from SAE Amsterdam. We have been mastering and coloring music since 2012.

Both of us love color and tape. Ilias has been involved on all of Kai’s releases and we built up a studio where we can play with these concepts and combine Ilias’ precise engineering with Kai’s colorful production skills.

We work mainly with artists that look to add color during the mastering process, or want to shape their already colorful production.

Our coloring flavors include:

- Tape saturation with ferro, chrome, metal cassette (Marantz CP430) and 1/4" tape (TEAC a330s, Studer B67, Telefunken M15a)
- Downsampled digital crunch with 26Khz 12bit (ISLA S2400)
- Transformer saturation (Carnhill)
- Preamp overdrive (Studer 169)

Coloring adds texture and artifacts, therefore integral parts of the coloring process are denoising and restoration. We ensure your music retains all the beauty of the color added, while removing harshness, resonances and overall unwanted coloration.
