Giovanni Traverso on SoundBetter

Hello everybody, I am a music producer based in Europe, north-west of Italy. My skills concern composition, both music and lyrics. I composed for theatre in verses. I studied and play piano & guitars, oboe, synthesizers and vocals. As free-lancer I am here for offering some of my skills you may need for your projects! Thanks!

I am a multi-player (oboe, guitars, keyboards, vocals) with classical music and literature as background studies specialized in composing pop-rock-electronic arrangments and lyrics.
My artistic experience covers both the music industry as composer/arranger and theatre/poetry as a lyricist and poet.
Here you may listen to some of my compositions:

Solo:

Duo:

Band:
https://grahamjane.bandcamp.com

My specialization is composing, arranging and pre-mixing songs.
I studied music in the Conservatory of my town, oboe, choirs, harmony and I have a BA in classical literature at University of Pisa.
I have been playing as a musician in many roles, singer, guitar, keyboards and synthesizers, since I was a young boy. I could not count how many stages I went on in my life! 😊
To develop my production skills, I attended mixing courses that gave me a solid support upon many many years of practice in audio editing, to provide you polished and already balanced tracks, ready for next production step.
If you would need some great taste in terms of available costs, I could be the right choice for you.

Thanks,
always at your service,

Giovanni Traverso

Giovanni composed the music for some lyrics I wrote. I listened to his previous works, so I had an idea of what to expect. But Giovanni exceeded my expactactions and brought the song to a completely new level. In addition, he provided perfectly written score of the composition!

Interview with Giovanni Traverso

  1. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  2. A: I have studied Oboe at Conservatorio N. Paganini in my town, Genoa since I was 12 years old. Also, I have a bachelor in Greek & Latin literature. I have a classical background: choir, orchestra etc... Then I performed and recorded songs for many years with my former band, Graham Jane. We released 5 Album with them. I also recorded a solo Album as a songwriter, in Italian. Actually I am in a electronic/pop duo, that I love, called Apalis Duo. We released our first EP for a label called Amselcom, in Berlin.

  3. Q: What's your typical work process?

  4. A: Inspiration guides me in the first part of the process, where I have to free some musical ideas. Afterwards, craftsman work comes into play. For my experience a good song is a mix of both inspiration and dedication: without one of them, the song is not so interesting. Sometimes lyrics come first, sometimes after.

  5. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  6. A: I’m improving my songs, hiring mix engineers and musicians here on SoundBetter. Also, I am working on some Pop tracks with Apalis Duo.

  7. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  8. A: Many have technical skills, even better than I have. But I believe I can offer more than many others on the composition side because of my musical taste.

  9. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  10. A: I bring inspiration, musicality, taste and experience.

  11. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  12. A: With this song, "Sad Sad Christmas", I signed for a cool label called Amselcom, based originally in Berlin: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51RjMDAi3q4

  13. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  14. A: Wojciech S., a brilliant poet - Marzia Bulli, a great and honest mixing engineer - but there are many more, really. I am always surprised looking how many great talents God shared around.

  15. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  16. A: A good song makes the client happy to invest time and money in art. And art contributes to overall beauty in the world.

  17. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  18. A: Generally, they ask me to compose a song or some lyrics for their song. Sometimes both.

  19. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  20. A: That is an hobby! Not at all, we spend so much time and professionality in what we do.

  21. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  22. A: What they want, in details. Clients should express clearly what they look for to make it happen, or elsewhere to say: “I am sorry, but I am not able to do that”. We can do every step of the process. That’s why all of us received different talents.

  23. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  24. A: I’d like to find poets with something to say. Or people with musical attitude to produce something beautiful, not necessarily commercial.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: An author's style, made of elements coming from refined songwriting, electronical textures, classical harmonies and pop(ular) orientation.

  27. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  28. A: I am specialized in creating songs & writing lyrics. As a performer/arranger my skills are for: 1 Composing song 2 Vocal writings 3 Arrangments with guitars&bass / synthesizers&keyboards / effects&strings 4 Woodwinds: oboe (acustic)

  29. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  30. A: My favourite albums were analog recorded. If I could, analog.

  31. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  32. A: A beautiful song.

  33. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  34. A: Songwriting, Indie, Pop-rock and Electronic.

  35. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  36. A: My strongest skill is on the creative side. I would say for the composition itself. And attitude to write profound lyrics.

  37. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  38. A: Classical guitar, pen and papers.

  39. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  40. A: I think that studying harmony may open a lot the spectrum of our possibilities in music production.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: There are so many: for the sound I like Pink Floyd, Radiohead, The Doors; in the process of songwriting many italian songwriters like Paolo Conte, Fabrizio De Andrè, Lucio Battisti. But also many classic composers, like Bach, Schubert Arvo Part. For the vocals I am very much inspired by Robert Plant, Amy Winehouse...

  43. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  44.
