Jamie Dougherty on SoundBetter

I specialize in discovering, expanding, and refining the form that songs take. As a songwriter I know how difficult it can be to both write a great song and discover its ‘final form.’ I love helping artists push past clichés and easy solutions to discover the true heart of their song, and bring that song to final fruition.

This means I’m always working in and across many different genres. My pop songs might have a slight jazz inflection or indie experimentation in them. My ambient electronic tracks carry an underlying pop-hook influence, or a rhythmic intensity picked up from metal or hip-hop.

I also have a degree in creative writing, with many years of editing experience and have taught many poetry and lyric workshops. If you feel stuck creatively or aren’t sure how to take your songs to new heights or territories, I’d love to help how I can.

I work with singers and instrumentalists in my home studio in Nashville, as well as remotely. Let’s create!

Jamie is one of the kindest souls I know, and before I rave about his true and deserved talent, this is just as important to know about someone. When bringing him my ideas, I know I can trust him to be honest and yet caring. His approach is filled with compassion and humor, both of which are necessary when making art. His knowledge of genres of music, his work as both a musician and songwriter, and his incredible ear as a producer make him one hell of a man to work with.
