My name is Giuseppe Lipari and my musical career started when I was 6 years old. I studied piano for 7 years. Later I learned, by myself, to play Guitar and how to make music. In these years I have gained experience with keyboards and guitar, music production, songwriting, arranging, sound design, recording, mixing and mastering.
Throughout my career I've worked on several projects involving numerous genres such as Pop, Indie, Soul, RnB, Electronic, Reggae, Hip-Hop, Dance and World.

Interview with Giuseppe Lipari

  1. Q: What's your typical work process?

  2. A: Usually I first consult in detail with the client about their song or the song they want to write. Producing and writing a song can take me 1 week. I prefer start writing a song playing piano or guitar e singing some melodies, to define genre, harmony, style and top line. Once vocals are tracked, I spend 2 days comping, editing, tuning and aligning. Finishing the production and mix can take a few days, because I really fight to make sure every moment is magic.

  3. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  4. A: I have got an Apple Macbook pro, an M-audio audio interface, a pair of beyerdynamic DT 770 pro headphones, a SM58 microphone, a Mexican Stratocaster 09' guitar and a master keyboard Novation sl mk2. As plugin I have different brand like: Native Instruments, Spectrasonics, Fabfilter, Sonnox, Output, Izotope, Polyverse, Valhalla, Overloud, Arturia, Alliance, Brainworks.

  5. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  6. A: As a musician and producer I can understand when some artist has taste and talent. 3 Musician/Artist that inspire me are: Chris Martin, Bonobo, Amy Winehouse. 3 Producer/Artist that inspire me are: Rick Rubin, Max Martin and Michele Canova.

  7. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  8. A: Mainly my clients ask me to take care of the whole process of making a piece of music. Songwriting (writing of harmony and top line), production, voice recording, arrangment, post-production, mixing.

  9. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  10. A: I'm working on multiple artist project and various songs for independent artists.

  11. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  12. A: I mainly work in the box (digital), but I prefer analog, just because sounds different, more brilliant and fat cause of harmonics.

  13. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  14. A: I like so much the songwriting's sessions.

  15. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  16. A: I always ask to speak in depth about the work to be done, so as to know better the goal he intends to achieve.

  17. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  18. A: Take a moment to consider what a producer does. It's all about vision - that's what you're paying the for. So pick a producer who you feel you can trust, even when they may ask you to push your own boundaries a bit.

  19. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  20. A: Generator, computer, headphones, a little keyboard and a bottle of water.

  21. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  22. A: My musical career started when I was 6 years old. I studied piano for 7 years. Later I learned, by myself, to play Guitar and how to make music. My father taught me how make music and mixing. In these years I have gained experience with keyboards and guitar, music production, songwriting, arranging, sound design, recording, mixing and mastering.

  23. Q: How would you describe your style?

  24. A: I am swinging musician that find his love on music production. I love poetry, art and science. I define my style as elegant. I like good music, specially played music. To impress me you should play some chords progression that I never heard before.

  25. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  26. A: I'd like work with Chris Martin to explore his world and to study his approach to songwriting.

  27. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  28. A: Pop, Rnb, Electronics, HipHop, Reggae, Soul and Indie.

  29. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  30. A: Sure songwriting (write melody and harmony) and producing. As a player, my main instruments is piano/keyboard.
