Interview with Juan Pardini
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: The most common thing is to get together with my partner (Bruno), who is the owner of the studio, as well as being a double bass player and guitarist. If the project is to record a song, we have a study prior to the meeting in the studio where we already clarify what is necessary. Once in the studio we proceed to record the instruments and then in another session (and another day) I take care of mixing. If the project does not require recording instruments, we start by working on the mix, I use Pro tools and Ableton Live. I create my session and with a reference, which I always ask the client for, I start my work. Processes like compression, equalization, reverberation, delay, spectrum and level analyzers are always present. Likewise, each project is different and each one needs something specific and the process is not usually the same.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: The studio features an Apollo Twin interface, Yamaha monitors, and 6 condenser microphones. In that same studio we have the drums, the piano, some classical and macaferri guitars and the double bass. All treated acoustically achieving a sound with which I am getting to know more and more.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I am from Argentina and I was influenced by the sound of artists like Luis Alberto Spinetta, Gustavo Cerati, Charly García and Fito Paez among the greatest.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: The most common job I've had as a freelancer so far was recording songs and mixing them. Since I am a guitarist-musician, many times it is my turn to record and also do the mixing.
