Interview with Valerio Pellegri

Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: I do not only turn knobs. I do not compose music with loops as if it was a puzzle.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: I know it's hard to describe the music you are looking for in words, so try to be as detailed as you can when you describe your project.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I'm a full time composer, pianist and teacher from many years now.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Tchad Blake (Peter Gabriel's mix engineer)
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Mix the 80% of your time in mono! :)
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Cinematic, Corporate, Jazz, Pop, Commercials and Videogames.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Piano instrumental (I'm currently a teacher of Contemporary Piano and Computer Music with more than 30 students ). Composing music, sound design and mixing.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I use private links on soundcloud so that the client can tell me exaclty where and how changes should be made. If the client does not have a soundcloud profile I use secure FTP or simply emails.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I compose bespoke music for adverts, commercials, film and videogames. I edit, mix and/or master audio for already recorded projects (ProTools). As pianist I compose or just record tracks, especially in these genres: cinematic, meditative, jazz, ragtime, pop.
