J.Lee was significantly involved in the production of my band's 3 albums. He co-produced/engineered our 1st album, mixed our 2nd, and mastered the 3rd. He provides a fun and creative space for artists, allowing for the exploration and discovery of the best ideas and sounds for your project. He gives great feedback and direction without impeding the artist's creativity. His musical language and knowledge is expansive, making him an excellent partner in the studio no matter the genre. He's a versatile musician and, to boot, he's just a wonderful human and professional. HIGHLY recommend him!

Great producer to work with. Hard working and creative. Constantly finds new approaches to keep what he does fresh without losing the essence of who he is. Whether for solo projects, albums, already written songs, collaborating on new material, mixing etc. he’s committed to bringing the artists vision to life.

Interview with J.Lee The Producer

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I released an EP in collaboration with Cam in 2019 entitled "24 Hour" where we locked ourselves in the studio and created and wrote 3 songs all within 24 hours. I believe my best work came on the album I produced, engineered, and co-wrote on numerous songs entitled "Music Box" (2017). I loved that I was able to work with so many different artist and really put them on music that they thrived with and sounded best on!

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I am currently working on numerous projects: > Champion Anthems - a sports-themed inspirational album > Let Love Lead - a song produced for a non-profit organization > Producing and engineering a Hip-hop/Jazz album for Adam L. > Producing and engineering a worship/gospel album for Mars Coleman

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: I do not know anyone just yet.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: I have a deep appreciation for the unique and captivating sound of analog. While I primarily produce music digitally, I am constantly in pursuit of programs and software that can accurately emulate the warmth and depth of analog sound. Whether it's through the use of summing hardware or Slate Digital software, I am always striving to achieve an authentic analog sound in the digital realm. The distinct and desirable qualities of analog sound are truly unparalleled.

  14. A: How much do you charge? It depends on the project and timeline that you have.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That I'm a beat maker. Yes, I make beats and compose music. However, being a producer is much more than that.

  20. A: When searching for a music engineer, it is crucial to locate an individual with experience in your specific genre. If you have a country song, it is unwise to hire an engineer who specializes in trap music. The most effective course of action is to seek out an individual with the expertise and skills necessary to mix your particular style and genre. 26. A: As a composer, I firmly prioritize the creation of soulful music that inspires thought. My mixing style as an engineer centers around making the artist shine and allowing the listener to fully immerse themselves in the music. I hold a deep appreciation for feeling music and, without a doubt, believe that music is not just meant to be heard, but also felt.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Brandy. I love her voice, arrangements, and music! She is the best RnB vocal arranger in the business.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: To achieve a well-balanced composition, it is imperative to give each instrument its own designated space in the mix. Your composition should not overshadow their performance - always make it about them!
