Interview with Ps Producer

  1. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  2. A: When speaking with prospective clients, I typically ask questions that help me better understand their needs and expectations. Some of the questions I ask include: - What is the overall vision for your project? - What are your musical references or inspirations? - What emotions would you like the music to convey? - Is there a specific timeline for the project delivery? - What is your budget for this project? These questions help me align my approach with the client's expectations and ensure that we are on the same page from the start.

  3. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  4. A: My advice for a customer looking to hire a provider like me is to be willing to create and invest time in something of quality. It's important to stay open to new ideas and think outside the box.

  5. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  6. A: If I were on a deserted island and could only take 5 pieces of equipment, I would choose my laptop, a small audio interface, a MIDI controller, a pair of headphones, and a microphone.

  7. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  8. A: I started in music at a young age and I'm self-taught. My father taught me my first rhythms and chords, and from there, I always sought to learn more about music. I've always had a strong desire to be a producer, and in 2019, I had the courage to make the decision of my life. I have 5 years of professional experience in music, but I’ve been learning and creating for 18 years (I’m currently 22).

  9. Q: How would you describe your style?

  10. A: I'm somewhat eclectic. I enjoy songs that evoke feelings, whether of happiness or sadness. My tendency leans towards POP, with some influence from Ambient Music and an 80s vibe.

  11. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  12. A: I would love to work with Coldplay. I really admire their essence. The lyrics, melodies, and harmonies of their songs evoke deep feelings in me.

  13. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  14. A: One piece of advice I always give is: never use templates! Always start a project from scratch. If it's an original song, you need to draw out the essence of the track. When you start with a "template," you limit yourself to that framework, and that shouldn't happen! Every melody, every chord, and every word should come together to tell a unique story.

  15. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  16. A: I usually work on Contemporary Christian Music (CCM), but I’ve also had the opportunity to arrange for various other styles like POP, Orchestral, Acoustic, and more. I enjoy exploring different genres and bringing unique elements to each project.

  17. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  18. A: My strongest skill is creativity, something intangible. It’s not just about techniques—it’s something that can't really be explained. When I hear a song, receive an audio, or even when someone reads the lyrics to me, I immediately start imagining the arrangements and what each instrument could do. It feels like there's something greater at work within me, and I’m just the instrument. That’s what drives me in music production.

  19. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  20. A: What I bring to a song is a blend of technique and emotion. My approach focuses on capturing the essence and message the artist wants to convey and translating that into an arrangement that enhances those emotions. I pay close attention to detail throughout the production process, from the choice of instruments to the final mix, always prioritizing musicality and authenticity. Moreover, I strive to ensure that every project has its own unique identity, combining the artist’s vision with my experience across various musical genres.

  21. Q: What's your typical work process?

  22. A: The artist contacts me, usually through WhatsApp, and presents the project. I then check with my team to see if we can handle the demand. After that, we schedule a briefing and budget meeting. Once that’s settled, I send the contract to the artist, and as soon as it's signed, we start creating the rough tracks and bringing ideas to life. If the artist approves the main concept of the song, I begin recording. After all recordings are done, the editing process, handled by someone on my team, starts, followed by mixing and mastering until we have the final product.

  23. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  24. A: My main studio is located in Goiânia, where I have several pieces of equipment, including 4 headphones for artists to record, an AKG K240 headphone, Shure microphones (SM58, 7b, Beta), AKG microphones (P3s, P420), and gear for live drum recording. The studio has acoustic treatment, and there's a separate Mix House with a Mac ecosystem and Yamaha studio monitors. In my other studio, I have various musical instruments, including guitars, acoustic guitar, MIDI controllers, reference monitors, a dual audio interface, vocal microphones, and other gear.

  25. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  26. A: I'm a very eclectic person. I find a lot of inspiration in Tony Anderson when composing my pieces because I feel so much emotion in his music. Recently, I've also been inspired by the career of the great Quincy Jones. Like him, I see myself producing a wide range of styles, but always with deep emotion and a unique language that connects to each project.

  27. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  28. A: The most common type of work I do for my clients is creating high-quality multitracks for artists looking to enhance their productions. I also arrange unique versions of existing songs, giving new life to well-known compositions. However, my primary focus is producing original songs, collaborating closely with artists to bring their creative visions to life.
