CREDITS: Maxim/The Prodigy, Ludacris,Wiz Khalifa,The Yeah Yeah Yeahs,Gorillaz,Swedish House Mafia,Baddies Only,Kelis,Sean Paul,Sugababes,Ms Dynamite,Nadia Rose. Trained and then worked in top London studios for 20+ years (Miloco, StrongRoom, Townhouse) / Advanced Mixing Course tutor for 10 years at The London School of Sound.

I worked with Miloco Studios for over 10 years, who managed me as an engineer/producer and called on me for many sessions. From international Hip Hop stars Wiz Khalifa and Ludacris to indie rock band The Yeah, Yeah Yeahs.

I have had a hand in 2 x UK #1 records and I also mixed the branding music for the UK's most popular TV channel BBC 1, which ran for 6 or 7 years and was broadcast over 100,000 times!

I have streaming directly from Pro Tools, so I can send you a live audio/video feed anywhere in the world of the mix in progress. 2-way communication helps nail the mix quickly and efficiently.

I pride myself on being very easy to work with, highly motivated, and completely focused on getting the best results.

Going into the mixing phase for this last track I was starting to doubt whether even an experienced pro could "salvage" the recordings I'd put together. In that context, Matt has really been a blessing. He was extremely encouraging throughout the whole process, showed a genuine interest in the track I handed him, and most importantly delivered an end product I feel stands up well against the references I gave him. I absolutely recommend Matt for mixing/mastering!

  2. Review by Florian

Once again Matt mastered my two tracks and really managed to enhance and improve them in a very noticeable way! I feel like with Matt on my side I‘m really gaining experience and improving my music making! Can‘t recommend enough!

  3. Review by Todd G.

What can i say. Read the reviews. What everybody is saying is true.

Matt is not just out to cash out on a quick master. He points out the possible flaws in your mix and walks you thru on how to fix it before he even touches the console for mastering. This is very helpful and a trade that not many mastering engineers will offer.

I recommend you give him a try!

I scheduled a consultation with Matt to get help with my at-home set-up because I was extremely overwhelmed and confused. He is extremely knowledgeable explained everything very clearly so that I (being the non-technical person I am) could understand and was very patient with all of my questions :). I walked away with the conversation with a genuine understanding of how to set things up properly. I highly recommend working with Matt!

You know a good recording, a good person, when you meet one, correct? Meet Matt!
Even though we are in different time zones (-5), and work in different genres, Matt demonstrated a consistent presence, and remained courteous and knowledgable throughout the entire process. He's efficient, presenting proper feedback at each turn.
I will seek him out when I need such services again.
Matt embraces the best of what we all hope to achieve.
You want to work with him. You just didn't know until now!

Matt, got my tune sounding better than I imagined going into it, along with educating me on choosing the right options for my tune specifically. Super stoked on the result 😎 10/10.

It's definitely a vulnerable thing to trust someone with my music. Matt is both super skilled, personable, and professional. After mixing 2 tracks beyond my expectations, I would trust him with any of my music now, because he's earned it. I can't wait to send him more of my songs to whip into full, rich, sparkling finished products!

I am a producer and mix engineer myself so I have pretty high standards for how I want my music to sound, and Matt just knocked this mix out of the park! He brought it to life in all the ways I wanted. Used the references I gave and just nailed it. I am really excited to release this song now!

Interview with Matt Foster

  1. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  2. A: I have already worked with some of my favourite artists - however Jimi Hendrix and Bob Marley will always be close to the top of my list. They changed the world of music in the very brief amount of time that they were active - and I feel they both had so much more amazing music to create.

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: Both, because there are huge benefits of both worlds.

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: To treat your song as if it were my own.

  7. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  8. A: Acoustic guitar, crazy good Soundsystem, powerful laptop, amazing headphones and a vinyl record deck with 1000s of records - I guess I would need some solar power too!

  9. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  10. A: Sure, monitor quietly for most of the time when mixing. Turn it up loud only for short periods.

  11. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  12. A: Pop, Hip Hop, Rock, EDM, House, Techno and everything in between.

  13. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  14. A: I think balancing the technical with the creative and artistic.

  15. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  16. A: I try to make as much magic happen as possible, if that be creative touches to make the song shine, or a certain groove, feel or sound. Making the vocals project with extreme clarity and energy. Letting the song dictate the direction and hitting it out of the park.

  17. Q: What's your typical work process?

  18. A: I have an assistant who helps me prepare for mixes and also bounces stems etc. Which I am extremely grateful for and leaves me to focus on the actual mix and mastering. I do though, often do my own preparation as it is a good way to get familiar with the song. I always start by listening to a rough or demo mix, and by making notes. I like to become very familiar with the song and forge a strong vision of where to go with the mix. I always try to find that unique balance that just sounds on point, effortless and faultlessly balanced. I know from experience that when you put the time in to make that happen, the mix really brings the song to life!

  19. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  20. A: I have a purpose-built studio with extensive acoustic treatment that is geared towards mixing and mastering. I have a wide selection of analogue gear for processing, centred around a powerful Pro Tools Ultimate / Logic Pro DAW setup. Neve, SSL, Manley, Distressor, 1176 etc and a selection of 3 speaker systems from very large to very small, as well as a number of headphones 🎧 My plugin list is enormous, even after I have reduced it several times 😂

  21. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  22. A: So many, and in truth most people who dedicate themselves to music inspire me. I am most inspired by musicians who are singular and have a very strong sense of the artist or creator they are. They do not have to be prolific or uber-successful even 😎

  23. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  24. A: Firstly thank you for the interview. The most common work projects I undertake are mixing and mastering across a variety of genres. I am super lucky in that I work on a wide variety of musical styles with people all over the globe, and some really amazing artists, producers and musicians. I also write and produce music for TV, Radio and film and whilst this is not my main type of work, I have had a lot of my own productions featured over the years from TV shows to movies 🎬
