Interview with Mro Fox
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: my promise to my clients is , that they gonna like it and that my tracks are adding a lot of spirit and the fine extra spice to the track.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: just trust the taste and ideas which are coming from the artist , if it doesnt go in the way you would like to have it, descrive what you are missing .
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: well... 5 instuments! tenor, soprano, flute , bass clarinet and a Steinway D grand .haha!
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I´m playin the sax since 25 years, Flute and clarinet for more than 15 Years, still working a lot as a live performer and enoying that big times. I love the creative process and beeing challenged with new sounds and styles.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Keep things simple and kill your darlings on the way to the final product, there is always plenty of good ideas, just focus on the strongest. If you produce electronic music. dont underestimate the effect of some organic ingredients!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I m coming from a Jazz background, but I´m working with Artists of very different styles. Born and Raised in Berlin I´m well connected with the electronic scene as well as with filmmusic producers . I also did work for theaters and Rock bands as well. Request a style and I ll send you a sample.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is to hear the missing thing in the song and add it , no matter if its a growling tenor sax, some jazzy flute fills or some clarinet pads. I ll hear the song , know whats need it and add it. Most likely there will be different options to choose.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work with cubase and ableton, got a nice collection of mics, (TLM 193, TUL Tube mic, Tul t67, MD441 etc) for every instrument a bit of a choice. got a nice n quite big recording room with a small cabin, so can record super dry and also a little more alive. great preamps as well
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I mostly record woodwind instruments on preproduced tracks, sometimes just recording a predefined idea, sometimes i make up stuff which gives the track the amound of polish it needs
