From score to song to session — music shaped with care. | PhD Composer-Arranger for studio, stage & screen | 20+ yrs crafting award-winning music & sound for national & international artists & production teams.

With over 20 years’ experience across music and media (and a PhD in Composing), I help artists, studios, and creatives bring their ideas to life with precision, emotion, and originality.

As an arranger and composer, I’ve worked with both emerging artists and internationally recognized collaborators on projects spanning pop, orchestral, film, theatre, and games. My experience includes work for artists and production teams at Polydor, Sony, and 4AD, as well as scoring and sound design for concert halls, commercial and indie film, and interactive media.

Whether you need a lush string or choir arrangement, backing vocals, a song version, or transcription from scratch — or scoring and editing to picture — I bring a research-informed, intuitive, and highly musical approach to every project.

As a soundsculptor at heart, I shape each piece with care, precision, and emotional depth—whether it’s a pop arrangement, a film cue, or a game soundscape.

Interview with SoundSculptor

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: They've all been precious, and I have learned and grown from each of them. (For legal reasons I don't disclose artist names here. If that becomes our agreement too you can rest assured I will remain a paragon of tact and discretion :D)

  3. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  4. A: I work across most pop, jazz, and classical genres, with a little latin (specifically salsa, bossa, and fado) thrown in for good measure sometimes.

  5. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  6. A: I bring structure, emotion, and detail — whether that’s through a compelling arrangement, a cinematic harmonic shift, or subtle edits that make the vocal shine. I think about what the song wants to say and how the music can support it — not just technically, but expressively. With a background in composition and experience in directing, I shape each element to serve the overall arc of the piece, helping it land with clarity, depth, and impact.

  7. Q: What's your typical work process?

  8. A: Every project starts with listening — to the brief, the music, and the intention behind it. Once I understand the creative and practical goals, I’ll sketch initial ideas or arrangements, then check in for feedback before finishing. Whether I’m arranging strings, composing to picture, or editing vocals, my process is structured but flexible — always in service of the story.

  9. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  10. A: I most often work as an arranger and composer, shaping music that supports an artist’s creative vision or enhances a visual narrative. This might involve writing lush string arrangements for pop tracks, scoring for film or theatre, or crafting original compositions from scratch. I also regularly edit dialogue, comp vocals, and polish sessions to help bring projects to a professional finish, focusing on musicality, clarity, and storytelling.

  11. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  12. A: Common questions I get: What’s your process and timeline? Can you work within my budget? How many revisions are included? How do you handle feedback? What info do you need from me to get started? My answer: I’m transparent and collaborative from the start, as each project is unique and as such is priced based on the length and detail required of me in the work. I explain the workflow clearly, set realistic deadlines, and make sure your vision guides the project.

  13. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  14. A: I usually ask: – What’s the story or feeling you want the music to convey? – Are there any reference tracks, genres, or artists you connect with? – What’s the function of the piece — is it for a release, a film scene, a live performance? – What’s your timeline, and how do you like to give/receive feedback? These questions help me understand the heart of the project and how best to support it musically and practically.

  15. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  16. A: Be clear on what you want your music to do — emotionally, structurally, or narratively. You don’t need to speak in technical terms; just describe the feeling, intention, or reference points. The more I understand your goals, the better I can support them creatively. Also, trust the collaborative process — great work often comes from conversation, curiosity, and letting the music evolve naturally.

  17. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  18. A: I’ve been working professionally in music for over 20 years. My path started in playing classical and jazz piano which led to composing cross-genre and then quickly expanded into songwriting, musical directing, arranging, and sound design across theatre, film, games, and studio recordings. I earned a PhD in Composition, taught at universities and conservatoires, and collaborated with artists and production teams from major labels and indie scenes alike. That mix of formal training and hands-on collaboration has shaped a flexible, story-led approach to every project I take on.

  19. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  20. A: My strongest skill is shaping music to serve a story — whether that’s arranging strings to elevate a track, composing for a scene, or refining the flow of a session. I’m highly attuned to structure (that was actually the focus of my PhD!) emotional pacing, and musical detail, and I bring 20+ years of experience across genres, formats, and media. I also listen well — to people, not just music — so the collaboration feels creative, clear, and rewarding. I'm also a really precise editor :D

  21. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  22. A: Too many to count! I’m inspired by musicians and composers who balance emotional depth with technical mastery. In terms of arranging that'd be Vince Mendoza and John Philip Shenale. I love their versatility across classical, jazz, and pop music, and similarly aspire to be as versatile as possible.
