Daniel Armstrong

I write music, songs and hooks

Daniel Armstrong on SoundBetter

Let me help guide you into making your next big hit! It’s easier to list the successful artists who haven’t availed themselves of my services than to list the artists who have. I’ll cut out a two hour block for as little as $100 as a consultation starting point. I’m East Coast America so my hours reflect an Eastern USA time zone.

I’m a ghost songwriter with almost fifty years and many, many hits to my credit, that are not actually credited to me. My working method consists of avoiding the technical aspects of songwriting and concentrating on the core aspects at first. From concept to fruition, I can assist you to get a better quality product.
I have a flexible approach to songwriting that accentuates and can complement most starting ideas. Writers block? I can even help you with that also. I’ve been known to jam out over musical ideas in a live context in up to twenty minute sessions as well.
I have a consistent work ethic and I’m dependable… mind you, I’m not in my prime as I once was so there could be some allowances made. That said, I’ve been able to develop some time tested musical tricks over the years, that only a seasoned songwriter would appreciate..

Interview with Daniel Armstrong

  1. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  2. A: I like the variety of music that I get to work with the most. It’s really great not to have just a few hits that people want to hear over and over again. I get in essence, to pick and choose what popular songs that I listen to and not get bored or even worse, stale.

  3. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  4. A: How many songs do you need? Would I be able to listen to some of your legacy material? What direction boundaries should be set? Where are you at artistically? I don’t compile records of what material is worked on, are you okay with that? What type of live presence are you trying to achieve? What musical keys are you the most comfortable with? Are you prepared to perform a song over and over again, day in and day out, for an extended period of time?

  5. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  6. A: Sometimes, when an artist hits a roadblock, it helps to share the situation with someone who has insights to help with a resolution.

  7. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  8. A: Add a ‘call and response’ section to a song. I’ve even been able to alter whistle tunes with this technique. Sing or whistle something then bring it back for some kind of altered repetition. Have the notes reordered, use a different octave, a different tone or sound, you would be surprised at how many possibilities such techniques could open up. Please Note: Artificial intelligence either has no concept of this technique or is very limited in such capabilities.

  9. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  10. A: I’m a seasoned songwriter and can adapt to many styles of musical expression.

  11. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  12. A: I mainly stick to pop music but I’ve dabbled in to country and many others.

  13. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  14. A: Improvising is really my fortè.

  15. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  16. A: Ideas, ideas, ideas and more ideas. Sometimes the way to get an artistic direction is to have everything you can thrown at it to see what sticks.

  17. Q: What's your typical work process?

  18. A: My favourite type of activity is to get a music sound file either from scratch or completed, then jam over on top of it, to flesh out what works with it and what doesn’t. I’ve been known to contribute to lyrics on occasion however, not to dominate the song but just to help develop or define it. Then working on revising, developing and defining the content.

  19. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  20. A: I have five separate studios, each can be integrated into focusing on different aspects of songwriting. Mac and PC computers arranger and controller keyboards iPads, interfaces, audio and video monitors, various microphones, Logic, Bitwig, FL Studio, REAPER, Band In A Box, Serum, Vital, SynthMaster, etc., etc.

  21. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  22. A: I help get artists out of writer’s block, create ideas and get them to flow naturally. Do you have one hit song but you want to spawn derivative works for a themed album? I can help with that too! Do you have a pending deadline and need assistance in developing your material?
