Hi! I’m Julián, a guitarist and composer with over 10 years of experience in studios and on stage. My background is rooted in Jazz, but I’ve worked with artists across many genres, so I’m confident I can adapt to your vision and bring out the best in your music. I’ve recorded for artists in different styles as well as for films, series, and video games. I also release albums with my own projects, which gives me a deep understanding of how important it is to make every track feel unique and personal.
What I Offer: captivating guitar solos, solid rhythm sections, atmospheric textures, professional overdubs, and custom lines or comping (you can share sheet music, arrangements, or simple audio references). I’ll deliver up to 3 fully arranged and recorded tracks tailored to your song, with an extra track included if needed. Tracks are up to 4 minutes long, with 2 revisions included to make sure you’re happy. I can also provide a short free sample so you can hear my style before we start.

Interview with Julian Franji
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I’m particularly proud of an album I recorded with Ecuadorian pianist Eduardo Faour, titled "Para Recordar" (‘To Remember’). It was my very first Jazz album and is filled with heart and emotion. I composed half of the tracks and collaborated closely with Eduardo on the arrangements, and I feel the album captures my ideas beautifully, even with the growth I’ve had since then.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I’m currently working on my solo album titled "Interno" (meaning 'Internal'), which I plan to release next year.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Yes! Ezequiel Burín is definitely one of my all-time favorite guitarists!
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I enjoy both analog and digital. I feel that, when used properly, they complement and enhance each other.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: My promise is to give every track my full heart and attention. I want you to be truly happy with the results, and I approach each project with the passion and love for music that drives me.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love listening to the finished song with my tracks on it.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: The most common question I get is when the tracks will be ready. I usually deliver them within 48 hours.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Many people think recording guitar is just pressing "record", but it’s really about understanding the song, playing with intention, and shaping the part to serve the music.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I usually ask if they prefer a specific type of guitar, if more instruments will be recorded over the track (to consider registers, voicings, and comping), and if they’d like a solo and if so, at what point in the song.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: My advice is: share the story and context of your song. Understanding the meaning behind the music helps me create a version that feels authentic, both musically and conceptually.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My steel-string acoustic guitar, audio interface, computer, cables, and a solar panel for unlimited energy.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: 've been playing music since I was 4 years old. I don't have any memory without music. I consider myself professional since 15 years ago.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I’d describe my style as colorful and expressive. I like to think of my playing as painting moods and stories through music.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I’d love to collaborate with Kurt Rosenwinkel. He’s one of my greatest influences and has expanded the language of Jazz by blending different aesthetics and sound worlds. His creativity is just from another planet.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: The best sound don’t come from EQ or editing alone. Tthey start with thoughtful microphone placement.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: My main style is jazz, but I have also worked extensively in fusion, folk, rock, pop, singer-songwriter, and Latin rhythms such as bossa and folklore.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Jazz soloing and comping
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: provide organic yet clear and professional tracks that help bring out the essence of the song.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My process starts by carefully listening to the track and considering its concept, title, or lyrics. I take notes on structure, chords, and ideas, then play along multiple times to get comfortable. Once ready, I record, edit, fine-tune volume, EQ, and effects, and deliver a polished final track.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio features an Antelope Zen Quadro interface, high-end microphones, a variety of guitars, tube amps, and top-tier pedals. I specialize in jazz tones but can also craft sounds across other styles—from ambient textures and lo-fi vibes to powerful distortions—using both my analog gear and an extensive collection of plugins.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I’m surrounded by friends and colleagues who are incredible professionals, so I’d say they are my biggest inspirations. Beyond them, my inspirations include Chick Corea, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Toninho Horta, Ella Fitzgerald, Pat Metheny Steve Vai, Brad Mehldau, Frank Zappa, and many more.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I create and record guitar parts (accompaniments, arrangements, and solos) to bring my clients' tracks to life. Most of the time I learn songs by ear, which I’m very skilled at, but I can also read sheet music fluently.

I was the composer, performer, and recording/mixing engineer on all tracks (except for the second one, which was mixed by another engineer) in this production
