Interview with Zimpzon

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: Bright's track doing things and hes upcoming track. Me and a producer buddy of mine worked with him and produced the full track and Bright wrote the vocals. Just happy how it turned out and it was the first real hip/hop rap release i did.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: A couple of different songs with clients here from norway in my working studio. I have also helped with adding sounds on songs with different artists which will be released later this year.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Mickey S Songwriter and Demo vocalists. She wrote the chorus to a song i produced and it turned out great. She also has a lovely voice that fits in with modern tracks.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Digital because you can get the same results nowadays with the right plugins and it saves so much time. But in lack of inspiration i always love playing with analog synths and gear.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I dont give up until the result is a good song!

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: Working with new people and creating art!

  13. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  14. A: What kind of music do you like, what kind of music do you want to make, and if they want me to take inspiration from a certain genre or artist.

  15. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  16. A: To have a vocal with lyrics ready to go is always much easier to work with for me, but i have no problem starting with just a verse / chorus or a basic idea!

  17. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  18. A: Mac pro, Logic Pro X, Xfer Records serum, Maschine 2 and a midi keyboard.

  19. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  20. A: I have been doing music since i was 10 years old and started working professionally with music production and recording in 2010. So i have been doing this for professionaly for 7 years.

  21. Q: How would you describe your style?

  22. A: everything from melancholic and heartaching moods to happy go go good feeling music.

  23. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  24. A: Chris martin because everything he sings on just turns out great.

  25. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  26. A: Take the last note of your vocal or instrument in your project. Add a long reverb and more effects if you like. Bounce it and reverse it and you have a really cool and long sweep sound into the next section of your track.

  27. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  28. A: Mostly various pop and electronic music but also acoustic music and chillout/ambient music that would fit into a film, game or tv program.

  29. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  30. A: Sound selection/creation and bringing the right mood to a track.

  31. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  32. A: A full modern production.

  33. Q: What's your typical work process?

  34. A: I usually make a track from intro to the first chorus/drop and send it to a singer, and if the singer likes it then we take it from there. And sometimes i make a track from a vocal melody sent to me.

  35. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  36. A: Mac Pro, Logic Pro X, Maschine 2, and a lot of different plugins and soft synths.

  37. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  38. A: Coldplay, Steven Wilson, Jon Hopkins, Chainsmokers, Zedd, Ariana Grande, Porter Robinson, Justin Timberlake, Brian Eno, Daft Punk, The 1975, The Weeknd and so many many more!

  39. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
