In offering my services as a singer, songwriter, musician and arranger, I am here to help bring your artistic vision to fruition and add a personal touch to your project. Owing to my penchant for minimalism and melancholy, I excel in music that focuses on emotion and atmosphere without neglecting other approaches.

Authenticity and unwavering dedication are the cornerstones of my work. I can draw on 20+ years of experience in composing and arranging music, writing lyrics, and honing my skills as a vocalist and musician. I’ve been involved in genres as diverse as Folk/Singer-Songwriter, Doom Metal, Trance and Rap, and my interest as a listener includes a wide array of other styles.

As your session vocalist, I can
- write vocal lines that bring out the potential of your track,
- offer my distinctive, clean voice best suited for emotional music,
- perform harsh vocals ranging from growls to Black Metal shrieks,
- rap,
and will gladly write my own lyrics for all of the above.

As your (co-)songwriter, composer or arrangement consultant, I can
- write, correct or translate lyrics in English, German and Norwegian (Bokmål),
- help you with questions of song structure, the choice and composition of individual instruments etc.,
- compose minimalist piano music for films, television or games,
- compose/arrange string arrangements with a professional-grade string library,
and more.

As your session musician, I’ll gladly write and record piano parts (with my high-quality digital piano), e-bow or melodica. Other instruments such as drums or guitars may be possible, depending on what you have in mind.

Your project just might broaden my horizon even further – tell me about it!

Interview with Dominik S.

  1. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  2. A: I will approach your project with the same idealism and perfectionism I put into my own songs. The best possible end result is in my own interest as much as yours, so I will render my services to the very best of my abilities. Expect authentic emotionality from my vocals and a keen musical sense from my songwriting.

  3. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  4. A: To do what comes naturally, and to explore what makes us human with the most intuitive and intimate form of expression there is: music.

  5. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  6. A: Sophie Hunger. She's one of a kind, a rebel of sorts, an individualist to the bone, defying categorisation. Whenever I listen to her music, it doesn't just move me deeply - it encourages me to think out of the box and to keep doing what I do despite the immense obstacles that sometimes come with it. More than once I started writing new songs after listening to one of her albums. It'd be exciting to see what we could come up with in a creative exchange.

  7. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  8. A: A strong intuition for, and analytical perception of, music and language.

  9. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  10. A: Genuine emotion, dedication and a keen sense of what works musically (and what doesn't).

  11. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  12. A: People sometimes ask me what comes first: music or lyrics. The misconception in this question is the assumption that either of the two necessarily comes first, which is rarely the case when I write songs. Rather, the two inform and influence each other in a dynamic process, and I usually write them pretty much simultaneously.

  13. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  14. A: I've finished recording my Sidetrack Walker solo album alongside an EP and am working closely with my mixing engineer to give it the finishing touches it deserves. It's in a melancholic singer-songwriter vein with influences from various other genres. Apart from that, I'm planning a Funeral Doom project and some electronic material.

  15. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  16. A: Anything goes! Whatever works best for what you're trying to achieve will be the right choice. Myself, though, I mostly use digital equipment for convenience' sake, and because I'm not that much of an aficionado of the technical side of things.

  17. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  18. A: What do you write your lyrics about? - The answer is simple: everything I write essentially stems from authentic experiences. In my opinion, there really isn't much else one can write about.

  19. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  20. A: First and foremost, it's important to learn what exactly they have in mind. The more I know about their artistic vision, the better I can accomodate them.

  21. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  22. A: Most notably: Singer-Songwriter, Doom, Progressive and Black Metal, electronic music

  23. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  24. A: Listen to the sample tracks and be super-honest with yourself as to whether you enjoy what they're doing. Only contact them if you feel that you really want their unique touch in your project.

  25. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  26. A: What would be the use of any gear on a desert island?

  27. Q: How would you describe your style?

  28. A: Authentic, intimate, emotional and usually somewhat minimalist.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Put time and effort into the perfect take rather than trying to fix it in the mix.
