Gizzle on SoundBetter

Hi my name is Gizzle, the Grammy nominated Zen Thug. I have been blessed to work with some of the artists, producers, and writers in the music industry like Teddy Riley, Puff Daddy, Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, Ty Dolla Sign, Trey Songz, Kanye West and many others. However, I truly believe positive energy is more an important than a resume.

With over 12 years of experience in the music industry and in depth understanding of what appeals to the masses and the executives alike, I can offer clients high quality songwriting and production that will garner the attention that we all seek when we create our music. I wrote my first full album when I was just a senior in high school and I haven't looked back since. Throughout the years, I have been consistently called on for my fresh perspective and unique way of approaching of songwriting. Lyrics that cut through and concepts that bring it all home are key to me.

I specialize in songwriting, production, mixing, melody, lyric rewrites and edits. Through my entertainment and multi-media company THE GZL COMPANY, I help fellow artists, producers, and brands with the development of their musical careers.

Tell me about your project and how I can help, through the 'Contact' button above.

Interview with Gizzle

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: A project I worked on recently was the "The Fate & The Furious" soundtrack, its really hard to get a soundtrack to a movie so big and I actually got 2 placements on there, one was in the actual movie, so its super exciting. I was a songwriter on both. I am also really proud to have written 5 songs on Ty$ 's "Free TC" debut album, he on the track to be one of the biggest artists in the world and I have blessed to work with him since the inception of his career and so that album is the culmination and beginning of alot of things for us.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I am currently working on my "7 Days" series, its where I go to a different city every 3 months and I make 7 songs in 7 days. I am also working on Kelly Rowland's album,

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Tempo Stokes, Riley Urick & Mickey Shiloh. Incredible Talents.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Both. Digital is the new wave and so the different things you can do with some of this software is nothing short of amazing but I have a deep appreciate for analog and the depth it still gives your music and sound.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: My promise to my clients is high quality sounding songs from the writing to the production. A strong sense of who you are as an artist and musician and a product you can be proud of.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I like that my job allows for me to be creative in the expressing of my own feelings and helping to facilitate that expression in others. I like that my job allows me to meet people from all different cultures and backgrounds. It allows me to travel all over the world doing what I love. It keeps me passionate and expansive.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: How much does a song or feature cost? My answer: Let me hear the song first, I don't want to take your money if its not something I feel like I can do my very best on. How long will it take you to get it done? My answer: I can usually knock out any song in a session's time but I do not like to force the vibe, so if I need come back the next day or two, I will to get it right. I like to give myself at least a work week.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: The biggest misconception about what I do I think is that people think its going to cost an arm and a leg to work with me because of my resume but truthfully all things in life are negotiable. Don't be scared to ask if it is possible to work with in your budget, 9 times out of 10 it usually is. Another one though, people think money will just make me work with anyone, it wont, I have to believe in the person and their music.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: They usually ask me about my credits, how was it working with those people and how much will it cost?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: I would say just try to be as decisive as you can on direction that you want your project to go in. If you are not to sure though, no worries because I can help but please be open to suggestions.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: I'd take my macbook, my mic, my interaface, some great headphones and funktion 1 speakers, in case there are some people stranded with me. :)

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I started as a battle rapper when I was a teenager and I battled all around the city of Los Angeles before getting the attention of Usher. He wanted to sign me at 16 but due to the trajectory of his career and his label not being fully developed, it didn't work out. In the process of shopping my demo and getting other offers, Cudda Love (discovered Nelly) introduced me to the world of songwriting. I then kind of shifted my focus to writing songs then. I have been writing songs every since. It is going about 13 years now.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: I would describe my style as free, witty, sometimes raw and gritty but at others smooth with punchlines.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I would like to work Adele because her voice is so powerful and pure, I would love to write something moving and monumental and have her sing it. I feel like her voice cuts through all the noise.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: I would say find your voice and style and expand upon that. Don't get caught up in what others are doing, you can listen for a point of reference but really dive deep into who you are musically and constantly work to improve that.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?
