Will Easley

Mixing/Mastering Engineer

Will Easley on SoundBetter

Pro mixing/mastering engineer as well as touring bass player, performing on live TV (Jimmy Fallon + Jimmy Kimmel) and internationally. I love helping to actualize an artist's vision, and would love to help with whatever you're working on!

I've produced, mixed, or mastered dozens of songs, in addition to performing and arranging on many more. Performance is where the majority of my experience is, but engineering has similarly been a long-held passion of mine. I've played bass for artists in venues large and small -- including Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Radio City Music Hall, and the Ryman Auditorium -- but I treasure equally the opportunities to music direct and record with artists that I went to college with or good friends. Ultimately, I love to be of service to an artist's project in whatever way I can, and hopefully that project is yours!

I am also flexible and happy to discuss package deals if you want me to mix and/or master multiple songs on a project. Just reach out and let me know the scope of your project and we'll go from there!

Interview with Will Easley

  1. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  2. A: I'm mostly in the box in terms of mixing, although I have a Warm Audio SSL style bus compressor I'll occasionally use. My main piece of hardware is an Orban 674a stereo parametric EQ. I'll always have this on my mixbus, typically early on. I rarely use the EQ or filters in it, I just absolutely love the way the transformers in it sound. I find it really opens up the sound just enough right from the start to get a mix going. Beyond that, I find the UAD, Soundtoys, and Plugin Alliance plugins in particular get most other things done.

  3. Q: What's your typical work process?

  4. A: For mixing, I like to listen to the reference the artist or producer provides to understand where they left off, but also what it still needs. For them to have brought me the song, there's something that's not quite happening, and that's where I come in. It all depends on the song, of course, but I often like to take some big swings on a first pass of a mix to see if I can open up some new areas of the song the artist or producer might not have considered. I also understand how much time and effort goes into making that mix reference, and ultimately am considerate of the overall vision. For me, a great mix is when it feels like the song is exploding out of the speakers at you, even on an acoustic or ballad track. Energy, dynamics, and the overall feeling is what I listen most for.
