Interview with OTX Collective

Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: OTX is the joining of forces between two powerhouse studios in the Bay Area: Studio X in Oakland, and OTW in Fremont. Both studios have multiple sub-rooms & production suites fully equipped with industry standard mics & hardware. Our primary focus is to provide a comfortable and inspiring environment that artists can feed off of when in sessions.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I take the vision you have for your track and not only bring your idea to life but will enhance it. I'm a big vocal comp advocate so during recording if I feel you could perform a stronger take I will suggest that you do so. If I'm rapping or singing I will bring the emotion and the character appropriate for the track we're working on.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Recording: I work as quick as my client is willing to go. I believe in a quick but efficient recording process. I am quick with shortcuts and will give feedback when necessary so we can get the best recording possible. Mixing: After considering any notes or reference mixes you've provided, I will playback the track a few times and find a vision for your track. Then I get to leveling and processing.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I'm very inspired by production professionals Kuk Harrell (recording engineer/vocal producer for Rihanna, Jessie J, etc), Dave Pensado (engineering legend), Marcella Araica (mixing engineer) and OVO 40. Rihanna, Travis Scott, Kanye West, Missy Elliot, Rae Sremmend and Drake.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Recording, vocal production for rappers and Trap Soul R&B singers, mixing, and songwriting.
