Zachary Darrel Randall on SoundBetter

Producer & mixer with 6 full-length albums released. Specializing in metal mixing, reamping through real amps, and crushing rhythm guitars. I make heavy music hit hard without losing clarity or dynamics, offering custom cabinet IRs, drum programming, and atmospheric keys to round out your production.

I’m a producer, mixer, and guitarist with over a decade of experience in heavy music. Across six full-length albums with my projects Northern Crown and Miasma Theory, I’ve handled everything from songwriting and arrangement to recording, mixing, and mastering. Those records are my proof of concept: I know how to take a song from raw idea to finished release, and I know the challenges that come with making heavy music sound massive without losing clarity.

If you’re here, you probably want mixes that hit hard but still breathe, guitars that feel tight and crushing, or reamping that doesn’t sound like it came from a plugin preset. That’s where I can help. I specialize in mixing and reamping for metal and heavy rock, using real amps, real cabs, and years of experience dialing in tones that translate across systems. I also create custom cabinet IRs from my mic and amp collection, offering unique flavors you won’t find anywhere else.

Beyond mixing and guitars, I can contribute vocals, synth and drum programming, and production guidance. I don’t just want to finish your track—I want to make it sound like a record you’d be proud to release. Clear communication, professional delivery, and collaborative energy are what I bring to every project. Whether you need a single mixed or a full album produced, my goal is the same: to make your music heavy, powerful, and unforgettable.

I'd love to hear about your project. Click the 'Contact' button above to get in touch.

Working with Zach was a blast! One of the more challenging drum sessions I've ever done - and the reason was simple - Sprawling, complex, engaging, dynamic, GREAT songs (averaging around 7+ minutes each!). The level of quality on these tracks was through the roof. I'm grateful to have been a part of this project - and am excited for the world to hear these songs!

Interview with Zachary Darrel Randall

  1. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  2. A: My promise is that I’ll treat your music with the same care I give my own. I’ll listen closely to your vision, make choices that serve the song, and deliver a mix that feels powerful, intentional, and ready to release. You can expect professionalism, clear communication, and a finished product that stands up against commercial tracks.

  3. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  4. A: The biggest misconception is that mixing is just about turning knobs or making everything louder. In reality, it’s about taste and decision-making. A good mix isn’t about showing off every track — it’s about serving the song, knowing what to bring forward, and knowing what to leave alone.

  5. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  6. A: Find someone whose work you connect with, not just someone with the right gear or credits. The best results come from a good fit in taste and communication. Be clear about your goals for the project, and don’t be afraid to share reference tracks. A producer or mixer can handle the technical side, but it’s your vision that should drive the process.

  7. Q: How would you describe your style?

  8. A: My style is heavy, dynamic, and intentional. I like mixes that feel powerful and immersive but still leave space for detail and emotion. I focus on taste and restraint so the song feels impactful without being overproduced.

  9. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  10. A: The end result is what matters most, not how you got there. Whether you use expensive analog gear or stock plugins, what counts is how the finished track sounds and feels to the listener. Don’t get caught up in the process at the expense of the song.

  11. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  12. A: I usually work on heavier rock and metal styles, with a strong focus on doom, progressive, and other atmospheric or dynamic genres. I enjoy music that has weight and depth, but also leaves room for detail and emotion.

  13. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  14. A: My strongest skill is knowing what a song really needs. I have a good ear for balance, space, and vibe, and I know when to push something forward and when to leave it alone. That sense of taste and restraint is what lets me bring out the best in a track without overproducing it.

  15. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  16. A: I bring clarity, balance, and energy to a song, but most importantly I bring good taste. Anyone can turn up a vocal or add reverb, but the real difference is knowing what serves the song and what does not. My role is to highlight the strongest parts of your track, strip away anything that gets in the way, and make it sound polished and powerful without losing its character. The end result is music that feels intentional, impactful, and ready to stand alongside professional releases.

  17. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  18. A: My studio is built around a combination of high-end analog gear and a powerful digital setup. I use professional interfaces, preamps, and compressors for character and warmth, alongside a full suite of industry-standard plugins for precision and flexibility. I monitor on trusted studio speakers and headphones in a treated room, so every detail translates well outside the studio. The goal is to give clients the best of both worlds: the vibe of great hardware with the accuracy and control of modern tools.

  19. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  20. A: Most of my work is focused on mixing and polishing songs that artists have already recorded. I take raw tracks and shape them into something that sounds clear, balanced, and professional. That usually means making sure every instrument has its place, vocals sound powerful and expressive, and the overall mix has the punch and depth of a release-ready track.
