Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Kyle Kirkpatrick, Eric Belvin, Hector Gabriel
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Obviously how much things cost is the biggest question but let's chat first so I can see what your project needs!
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: The biggest misconception is that creating a film score is a single person job. There are musicians/editors/mixers/etc that all go into creating a score.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I usually for as many details as possible for my clients' project. There are so many elements that go into creating a score for a project that the better equipped with information I am, the better results I can give.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Being the sole/primary composer on TV shows is both a huge honor and a tremendous amount of work.. but the most rewarding when complete!
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Currently composing the score for multiple TV shows as well as the follow record with Powerman 5000 to "New Wave".
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both when possible. Analog for quality, Digital for speed.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I get to make music all day every day in many different genres. I've also had the pleasure of traveling to places I never would of on my own.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Macbook pro - apogee duet - AKG Headphones - NI Komplete S88 - Robocaster
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Muse meets NIN meets Ralph Vaughan Williams meets Hans Zimmer.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Modern film score/Rock/Electronic
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Mac pro - Logic X - Apogee Ensemble - Manley TNT preamp - Manley Reference Cardiod - AxeFX XL Processor - Outsounds Complete Library - ThatSound Complete Library - Spectrasonics Complete Library - EastWest Complete Library and Spitfire Audio.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I've been primarily focused on scoring for TV (Medinah, The Pact) but also produce/mix for artists from all genres.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Compoostion, song writing (minus lyrics) and sound design.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Whatever the client needs! Overall though I think I can strengthen melodic content, add a uniqueness to the color or timbre of the track and then wrap it up with a mix.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I will make sure that what you need gets done in the time you need it to get done in.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Shoot me a message! I am very open to work on anything.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I go wherever the wind takes me, the music industry is too chaotic to be picky. I have been doing this for 12 years and it's taken me all over the world doing things I never would of expected.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Any artist with a unique voice and vision.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Write good songs!
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I usually listen to the song then talk to the writers about their intention and goals. Then envision where the song needs to go and work your way back through all the steps that need to be taken to accomplish that.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I enjoy all types of music but Trent Reznor comes to mind as a revolutionary in the field of electronic music.
