Interview with Andre Caram

  1. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  2. A: To work with someone you feel comfortable communicating your ideas and inspirations with, most importantly someone you can build a trusting relationship as well.

  3. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  4. A: It’s very hard for me to choose one specific project as they are all so dear to me. I'am Grateful for all the opportunities and great talented people that I’ve been able to collaborate with. All I hope for are many more years of great collaborations.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Gui Tettamanti chief engineer of Studio 94.

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: To create something they feel is relevant to their artistic aspiration and to make things sound and feel right.

  9. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  10. A: Usually I like to ask a client what kind of music inspires them, what kind of sounds and instruments they enjoy, and just in general, spend some time with them and get to know who they are.

  11. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  12. A: My career path started as a singer and songwriter, I quickly found love with the production and creative process that happens in a studio which led me to focus my attention on developing my skills as a producer. Been committed to my craft since 2007.

  13. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  14. A: I’ve had the experience to work on many different genres of music, however most of the work that I’ve done lately is under Pop/Dance and Trap/R&B.

  15. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  16. A: Whenever I’m working with an artist as a producer or songwriter, I like to have them sing about something they can relate to, something that is in their heart, their mind or a topic that they feel strongly about. I try use sounds that inspired them and chord changes that move them. I Believe that during a performance, specially a vocal one, when an artist Is singing about something they believe in, the excellence and passion behind the performance is easier to be captured when that experience is relatable. I strive for excellence in all the productions and projects that I do, I don’t mind going to distance because in the end it’s always worth it as it will be registered forever as a song.

  17. Q: What's your typical work process?

  18. A: My process of creation will vary depending the project I’m working on, sometimes I will start with an idea for a song, sometimes a melody or instrument will inspire me and at times the whole thing just happens at once while I’m sitting in the studio trying to catch the pieces before they float away.

  19. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  20. A: My studio set up is extremely efficient for the kind of music that I make yet when necessary easily adaptable to broaden the spectrum of my needs or of the musicians and artists that I work it. I have a Mac Pro as a brain for my studio, always been a fan of the Apogee AD converters for their sound and brightness. For monitors I use my trusty HS8 which never fail me when mixing and monitoring. For my vocal chain I use a vintage Neumann U87 through an Avalon 737 EQ and compressor. I also have a API 500 series Eq and an SSL G Comp 500 series bus Compressor. I have a variety of keyboards that I used to produce along with large bundle of plug-ins for virtual instruments and mixing. I spent a long time designing my sounds I love the process of creating something unique that only I have when it comes to my drums and instruments.

  21. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  22. A: I grew up listening to contemporary music and also the rise of top producers in the early 90s and 2000s. Growing up the sounds of David Foster were a a great inspiration when it came to my interest in learning the piano, later with my interest in pop music, came the urban sounds of the Neptunes, Pharrell Williams and Timbaland that helped shape my production style and aspirations as a producer.

  28. A: I believe in today’s world they are both used together to create the perfect balance.
