Andrea Gianessi is a composer, sound designer, musician and songwriter based in Bologna, Italy. His work is mainly dedicated to experimenting with the dramaturgical potential of sound, composing music for theatre with particular attention to the interaction between concrete, electronic and acoustic music. His instrumentals are influenced by minimalist and ambient composers such as Brian Eno, Philip Glass, René Aubry, alva noto and Ryuichi Sakamoto but many inspirations also come from pop rock and progressive music such as Premiata Forneria Marconi, Area, King Crimson and from electronic musicians like Massive Attack, Apparat, Aphex Twin.
As a songwriter he likes to experiment with various genres mixing electronics, indie pop, world music and acoustic music. As a composer and sound designer for theatre he collaborated with Antonio Latella - Stabilemobile, TST - Teatro Stabile di Torino, ERT – Emilia Romagna Teatro, Ateliersi, Masque Teatro, Mitmacher Teatro, Fine Arts Academy of Bologna. He co-founded with director and stage designer Federica Amatuccio the theatre company Teatro dei Servi Disobbedienti (TSD) and is part of the artistic direction of DAS – Dispositivo Arti Sperimentali (Experimental Arts Device) of Bologna.
