Jonathan Blair is a composer from San Diego, California. He studied composition at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and Musicology at the University of South Africa. He has collaborated with some of the most important artist today, including Magdalene Minnaar, Ben Schoeman, Vasti Knoesen, Carla Ferriera, and Mikhael Subotzky.
His music has been actively featured in podcasts, on radio, and he is published through Novus Neuma Music Publishers, Gusthold Publishers, and Subito Music Publishers in New York. His commissions include opera, concertos, chamber orchestra, song cycles, stop motion films, as well as ensemble and chamber pieces. In addition to an active timeline of commissions, he is also engaged in post-graduate studies in Musicology, returning after a decade of actively working as a composer, and completing the first of intended several degrees in musicology, which motivates the external social, political, and psychological issues that motivate his music. He is an active writer and critic of music theory and analysis and is in the midst of developing a series of notebooks to be adapted into a course of his own theories, 'meta tonality'.
