Enlia is always a pleasure to work with. I've been working with her for almost 6 years now and, we've created many projects together. She's always reliable, polite, easygoing, and attentive and never lets her ego get in the way of the sometimes delicate balance of trying to discuss art and briefs within this digital platform. In other words, it's never complicated getting Enlia on board and knowing she'll have my back and the good of the project on the forefront of her mind. Merci Enlia :)

Again, Enlia did a wonderful and professional job with the Vocals for "The Little Match Girl" song. On top of having a beautiful, soft voice, and recording them well, she also demonstrated that she is able to contribute to the song composition by coming up with very well matching background vocals. She puts in a lot of effort to get it exactly right! I look forward to work with Enlia again.

Interview with Enlia

  1. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  2. A: Composing and producing music: Akai APC KEY 25 / Logic Pro X / Various plugins (Labs, Native...) Recording (vocals and instruments): Isovox 2 / Scarlett Focusrite 2i2 / Neumann TLM 102 / ART Pro MPA II (since December 2020).

  3. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  4. A: Mostly indie music.

  5. Q: What's your typical work process?

  6. A: It all comes naturally, to be fair. I listen to a song on repeat until lyrics & topline emerge, then I record vocals and adjust what needs to be modified. Composing and producing is pretty straightforward too, I create a motif, choosing carefully the sounds I want to use, and the track evolves around the first loop.

  7. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  8. A: Assuming I won't have any electricity there, my guitar and tons of books :)

  9. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  10. A: I was fifteen when I started composing, mixing music and write songs for fun. I got a speech-language pathologist degree, started working and quickly had some professional opportunities as a singer... Passion won !

  11. Q: How would you describe your style?

  12. A: Dreamy.

  13. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  14. A: Ramin Djawadi, his melodies are so personal and original. From one show to another, you can recognize him even if the music Genre changes.

  15. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  16. A: Just one ? Alright, when tuning vocals, the most important thing is to use your ears. Even if they're perfect in the first place, do not hesitate do de-pitch vocals where they stand out - instruments and plugins aren't 100% accurate. I think what matters the most is how all the instruments blend together (including vocals). So don't seek for perfection, seek for cohesiveness.

  17. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  18. A: Not necessarily a skill... but persistance ! Sometimes we get so wrapped up with our own vision... It's important to listen to the client's feedback and try other approaches if needed.

  19. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  20. A: Nine Inch Nails, Nobuo Uematsu, Joe Hisaishi, Brian Eno, Hans Zimmer, Bonobo, Massive Attack, Tori Amos, Enya, Imogen Heap, Ramin Djawadi and so on.

  21. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  22. A: I usually work as a singer-songwriter in different musical Genres (chillout, electronic music, pop, synthwave, dreampop, metal, educational songs, EDM, Ambient, trip-hop, lo-fi...) As a composer, I am mostly ambient and synthpop driven but open to other Genres.

  23. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  24. A: "Do you send dry or wet vocals ?" It depends on the rate, dry vocals are cheaper than dry + wet vocals :)

  25. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  26. A: Leee Zimmer for Mixing, Mastering and elegant Sound Design. Louis Lemoine-Soubeyrat for mixing and mastering dreampop and shoegaze productions.

  27. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  28. A: Digital, mostly because I like being able to work from anywhere !

  29. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  30. A: I'm especially proud of the Sound Generator Stephane Pigeon created on MyNoise with my vocals (https://mynoise.net/NoiseMachines/enliaVocalSoundscape.php). Really relaxing !

  31. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  32. A: Ubisoft's Beyond Good And Evil 2 soundtrack with other talented artists on HitRecord !

  33. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  34. A: I will do my best to enhance your track and will show up until the work is done.

  35. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  36. A: Turning my passion into work. It doesn't feel like a job !

  37. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  38. A: Promotion ! I am very happy in general to share my tips and connections with my clients and to show the work's done on social medias. Though, due to my own schedule, I don't have time to personally take care of all the promotional aspect of the project.

  39. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  40. A: Ethereal and relaxing vocals in general.

Vocal reel (check my different playlists on Soundcloud or Youtube for more infos and examples).
