Interview with Dan Myers
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Working with a rap artist by the name of Loski - although the style of music was different to what I was used to - I learnt a lot about tracking vocals and have really developed from there into a pro in that area (amongst others).
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Currently developing a roster of pop artists for my new indie label.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Marcelo Effori - he’s a great drummer and percussionist!
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Professionalism - and that my priority is to always listen out for what the client wants.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Everything!!
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: What do you charge and how long will the turnaround be? How long have you been doing this? What style of music do you focus on the most?
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That it’s easy…..
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Is there a deadline? Is there a budget? Can you provide some reference tracks?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Make sure the provider is really listening to what you are asking for.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Sm7b, headphones, guitar, keyboard, and a laptop

A: Pop Electro Pop
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Identifying a strong song/artist with a vision of where to take the project.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: A strong emphasis on the importance of a great melody. A strong understanding of song structure and arrangement as well as well accomplished technical skills in mixing and mastering.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Many different approaches depending on the client/artist. Usually starting with writing / co-writing a song, ensuring that the melody and lyrics are strong throughout. Once the song is demoed I then move on to tracking rough parts, replacing/finessing them as the song evolves. Mixing as the project progresses I work up to a stage where the song is then played on a variety of systems until the final master.
