Professionalism: 10/10
Laughter filled sessions: 10/10One of the best out there! Parker is absolutely incredible and has always provided a safe and inviting space for me to create in. He is such a joy to work with!!
Alright, let me be straight up, finding a producer you actually vibe with is difficult. I’ve worked with many, but working with Parker hit different. Dude just gets it. There’s zero ego in the room
He pushes me to be better, but always respects what I’m about, never trying to change the core of what makes my music mine.
I’m hyped about what we’ve made so far. anyone who’s tired of the “yeah, that’s fine” energy and wants someone who’ll actually invest in the project like it’s his own, he is your guy !
Parker is an incredible producer and songwriter!
Working with him was so much fun!
Interview with Parker Kay
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: 1. Gimme a Taylor GS mini. Need a guitar. That's always been my main instrument to write on. 2. MacBook. Hopefully the island has electricity! 3. SM7B mic. It's so versatile and sounds good on almost everything 4. Midi keyboard. Playing chords on the laptop keys would drive me crazy. 5. Audio-Technica Headphones. Need a good set to listen with.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been writing songs and singing since I was a small kid (luckily, those ones never saw the light of day). While growing up in Canada, I received extensive training and development while on The Next Star and The Next Star:SuperGroup. I started getting more into production in my late teens. I've been blessed to have some production and writing mentors over the past few years that have helped me not only elevate my own sound, but teach me how I can help others do so.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I think my style is versatile. I definitely come from a pop background, but the more I work in other genres, the more fun it becomes.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Kind of specific – but make sure your kick is in the right key! Pitching your kick up or down a semitone or two can make a world of difference in how it knocks and sits in the mix.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I come from a pop background, and that's mainly where I work. Since bringing my skills to other artists, I've had the opportunity to spread out to electronic, dubstep, indie, and hip hop. I love the challenge of getting into a genre I haven't had much experience with.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My people skills. No matter who I get in a room with, I'm able to connect and create with them. I know the balance of when to laugh and take a break, and when to lock in.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I think I'm a great starter. If you bring a vibe you want to emulate, or an idea you've been sitting on for 5 years and haven't been able to get it going, I'm able to execute and bring it to life.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I like to always go back to the song. If you can make a song sound incredible with just a vocal and a guitar or piano – you're setting yourself up for success. Everything else from there is just gravy on top!
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a great home studio with professional-grade keyboards, guitars, mics, and outboard gear.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Kevin Parker of Tame Impala has also really inspired me. His music is only him. All the instruments, all the engineering, all the writing, and even the mixing. I aspire to be the one-stop shop he is. I also love Ludwig Goransson & The Neptunes, and their ability to push the boundaries as producers & writers.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Typically artists come to me with a song idea or references. From there, I assist with writing, structure, production, engineering, and everything else to get their music ready for final mix & master.
