Andrew on SoundBetter

I am a music producer with 20+ years of experience in producing, recording, mixing & engineering.

I have released several albums and singles, performing around the US, UK, EU, Asia, Russia, Middle East and Africa as a headline act at festivals and events.

In 2005 I graduated from the Academy of Film and Dramatic Arts in Cape Town with a masters degree in sound design and have a diploma and bachelors degree in audio engineering.

I have produced work in studios ranging from multi-room analogue setups with vintage Neve desks and Studer tape machines to a laptop with a MIDI controller and am comfortable in all settings.

I really enjoyed working with Andrew. His musicianship and production skills are top-tier! He is a pro. Everything was on point from communication to the quality of his work. He was super organised, clear with what he wanted, and patient. He respected the process and the whole thing from start to finish was a really positive experience! I would highly recommend working with Andrew ⚡️⚡️🤩🙌👌

Interview with Andrew

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: I'm working on an EP of my own music to be released in Q3 2024.

  3. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  4. A: I would 100% recommend Sylva Kay. She's just done vocals for me on an upcoming release and I couldn't be happier with the results.

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: In my early career, I was fully digital in the last few years I've swung the other way and am buying up as much analogue gear as I can lay my hands on. I love the tactility of analogue. I can get lost for hours noodling around on analogue gear. Ultimately I have no preference when it comes to actually producing and I always use both analogue and digital on everything I do.

  7. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  8. A: I custom-built a studio with have a my ideal mixture of analogue and digital gear. I'm a huge fan of vintage analogue synths, so I have several of those and I send them through various outboard effect and pedals. Everything is recorded into Cubase through Focusrite or Neve preamps. I try to add live instrumentation to most of my productions so I have an assortment of electric and acoustic guitars and bass guitars which I send through an Orange OB1 500 amp head. Any vocals are recorded through Shure, Neumann or AKG microphones. My room is sound-treated with GIK acoustic panels and mixing is done on a pair of Yamaha HS7's.
