Interview with Duace
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: One project I’m particularly proud of is the work I did on a collaboration with Alok, one of Brazil’s biggest electronic music producers. I had the opportunity to contribute to the production of a track that gained massive recognition both in Brazil and internationally, reaching millions of streams across platforms. My role was as a ghost producer, where I worked closely with the team to craft the beat, arrangement, and sound design, helping shape the track into something that resonated with a global audience. It was a real milestone for me because it allowed me to blend my Brazilian roots with electronic music in a way that felt fresh and unique. What made this project special was seeing how my contributions helped elevate the track to the level it reached — and the response it received from fans was overwhelming. It also solidified my belief in the power of collaboration, and it was a proud moment to see the track played at major events and festivals worldwide.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: At the moment, I’m working on my upcoming solo album, which features a variety of collaborations with artists like Kevin o Chris, Oruam, and Menor K. It blends elements of hip hop, funk, and Brazilian music, and I'm really excited about how it's shaping up. In addition to that, I’m also collaborating with several independent artists on custom beats and mixing/mastering for their tracks, helping them bring their music to life with a polished, professional sound. It’s a busy but exciting time, and I’m always open to new projects and collaborations!
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: While I’m confident in my own abilities to handle most projects, I highly value collaboration and am always happy to recommend talented professionals on SoundBetter if a project requires specialized expertise outside my scope. If you're looking for top-tier vocalists, instrumentalists, or other specialized producers, I know several fantastic artists who excel in those areas and would be a perfect fit for your project. I’m all about making sure you get the best result possible, so if I believe someone else can help elevate your track, I’ll gladly point you in the right direction.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I appreciate both analog and digital tools for different reasons, and I believe they each bring unique strengths to the production process. Analog gear has a warmth and character that can add depth and richness to a track, especially when it comes to certain instruments or the final mix. There’s something about the tactile experience of working with analog gear that can also inspire creativity. On the other hand, digital tools give me precision, flexibility, and speed. The ability to manipulate sound with incredible accuracy, work with a vast array of virtual instruments, and easily integrate different genres and styles is essential in today’s music production. I often combine both — using analog warmth where it fits and digital precision for the finer details. Ultimately, I choose the right tool for the job, depending on the sound and vibe the project requires.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: My promise to my clients is to deliver high-quality, professional music that aligns perfectly with your vision. I’m committed to providing open communication, timely delivery, and a collaborative approach throughout the entire process. Whether you’re looking for custom beats, full track production, or mixing/mastering, I promise to give every project the attention it deserves and ensure the final product is polished, impactful, and ready for release. Above all, I’m dedicated to making sure you’re completely satisfied with the result and that the music we create together resonates with your audience.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: What I love most about my job is the creative freedom and the opportunity to bring someone’s musical vision to life. Each project is unique, and I enjoy the challenge of translating ideas into sounds that resonate with people. I’m constantly inspired by collaborating with talented artists, whether it’s producing a custom beat, mixing a track, or mastering a final version. Being able to see a song evolve from an idea to a finished product that’s ready for the world is incredibly rewarding. The best part? Hearing the music come to life and knowing it’s going to connect with audiences in a meaningful way.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: 1. How long will it take to complete my project? Answer: The timeline depends on the complexity of the project. Typically, I deliver beats or production drafts within 5–7 days, and mixing/mastering usually takes about 3–5 days. If you need a faster turnaround, I offer rush services for an additional fee. 2. Can I get revisions? Answer: Yes! I offer [2-3] free revisions for each project to ensure you’re happy with the final result. Additional revisions may incur a small fee, but I always aim to make sure you're completely satisfied with the outcome. 3. What do I need to provide to start the project? Answer: I usually need a clear idea of the direction for the track (e.g., style, references, and any specific elements you want) and any existing materials you have (e.g., lyrics, vocals, or rough ideas). If you don’t have everything figured out, we can discuss the vision together and I can help guide the process. 4. What genres do you specialize in? Answer: I specialize in a variety of genres, including electronic, hip hop, pop, funk, and Brazilian music. I’m versatile and can adapt to other styles, but these are where my passion and expertise truly shine. 5. Will I own the rights to the music? Answer: Yes, once payment is complete, you will own the full rights to the track. For ghost productions, I typically don’t take credit, but for non-ghost work, you’re free to use the music commercially and credit me as “Produced by Duace” or “Duace – Producer.”
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: One of the biggest misconceptions is that ghost production means I’m just "hiding behind the scenes" without contributing creatively. In reality, ghost production is a highly collaborative process where I work closely with artists to bring their ideas to life, often contributing to the overall sound and direction of the track. It’s not just about making a beat and walking away — it’s about creating something that resonates with the artist's vision and delivering a final product that sounds polished and impactful. Also, many people think mixing and mastering are quick processes, but they require time and precision to get every element right and ensure the track is ready for the industry.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: When working with new clients, I like to ask a few key questions to ensure we’re aligned and I can deliver exactly what they’re looking for: What is your vision for the track or project? – This helps me understand the style, mood, and overall direction you want to take. Are there any reference tracks or artists whose sound you admire? – This gives me a better idea of the vibe and quality you're aiming for. Do you have any specific elements or instruments you want included? – Whether it’s certain sounds, instruments, or effects, I want to know if there’s anything critical to your vision. What’s your timeline for this project? – Understanding the deadlines helps me manage the project efficiently and ensure we meet your expectations. What is your budget? – It’s important to know so I can tailor the scope of work and the best approach to fit your needs. These questions help set the foundation for a smooth and successful collaboration, ensuring we’re on the same page every step of the way.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: My advice is to come to the table with a clear vision of what you want but also be open to collaboration. The best results come when we combine your ideas with my experience and creativity. Don’t hesitate to share your references, inspirations, or any specific needs you have for the project — the more details, the better. At the same time, trust in the process and allow space for creative exploration. If you're unsure about the direction, I'm here to guide you and bring out the best in your sound. Whether it's custom beats, full productions, or mixing and mastering, my goal is to help you create a track that stands out, resonates with your audience, and aligns with your artistic vision.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: If I were stranded on a desert island and could only bring five pieces of gear, I’d choose: Laptop with DAW (e.g., Ableton Live or Logic Pro) – The heart of my production work. It would be essential for creating music, staying creative, and building ideas even in isolation. Audio Interface (e.g., Focusrite Scarlett) – For high-quality audio input and output, ensuring that I can record and listen to the best possible sound, even on a desert island. Headphones (e.g., Audio-Technica ATH-M50X) – Portable and great for detailed mixing, they’d help me stay connected to the sound and make sure I’m producing the best music possible. Midi Controller (e.g., Akai MPK Mini) – Compact and versatile for creating beats, melodies, and triggering sounds quickly, without taking up too much space. Portable Solar Charger – Gotta keep my gear powered up somehow, so this would be a lifesaver to keep the creativity flowing!
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I’ve been immersed in music for over a decade, starting my journey as a rapper before transitioning into music production and DJing. My path evolved as I became more involved in the Brazilian music scene, collaborating with some of the country’s top artists like Alok, Criolo, Edi Rock, and MC Lan. Over the years, my passion for creating unique, high-quality sounds led me to expand into ghost production, mixing, and mastering. I’ve had the privilege of working on tracks that have accumulated over 6 million streams, and my work has taken me both nationally and internationally, collaborating with artists and producers from Brazil to Europe and the US. As a member of the Latin Grammy Academy, I continue to push boundaries, drawing inspiration from my roots in Acre and blending it with global influences. My career is built on a commitment to excellence, creativity, and bringing out the best in every artist I work with.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style is a fusion of global influences and Brazilian roots, blending electronic, hip hop, funk, and pop elements to create dynamic, high-energy tracks. I focus on crafting music that feels both fresh and timeless, with a strong emphasis on melody, rhythm, and emotion. Whether I’m producing a beat from scratch, mixing a track, or mastering a final project, I aim to bring out the unique character of each song while ensuring it sounds polished and radio-ready. My work is always designed to make an impact, whether it's on the dancefloor or in the studio.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to work with Kanye West because of his incredible ability to blend genres and push boundaries in music production. His approach to sound is innovative, constantly evolving, and always experimental — something I truly admire. I believe working with him would be a unique opportunity to explore new creative directions and learn from his visionary approach to music. I’d also love to collaborate with Alok — having already worked in the Brazilian scene, his global impact and fusion of electronic and Brazilian sounds align perfectly with my style. Together, I feel we could create something fresh, energetic, and groundbreaking.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: One key tip I always give to producers is: focus on creating space in your mix. A crowded mix can feel overwhelming and muddy, so make sure each element has room to breathe. This means carefully EQ’ing different tracks to avoid frequency clashes, using panning to create width, and applying subtle reverb to add depth. It’s all about balance — when you create space, each element has the chance to shine, and the track becomes more dynamic and impactful.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I typically work on a wide range of genres, but my focus is on electronic, hip hop, funk, and pop. Whether it’s producing high-energy beats, crafting custom tracks, or mixing and mastering, I enjoy blending elements from different styles to create unique, dynamic sounds. My work often incorporates global influences with a special emphasis on Brazilian rhythms, adding a distinctive vibe to the projects I work on. I’m always excited to collaborate on new genres and experiment with fresh ideas, so no matter your style, I’m ready to bring your vision to life.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is my ability to blend creative vision with technical precision. Whether I’m producing a track from scratch, crafting custom beats, or fine-tuning a mix, I have a deep understanding of how to make each element of a song work together seamlessly. I’m also able to adapt to any genre, from electronic and hip hop to funk and pop, while adding my unique touch that makes the track stand out. In addition, my experience working with top artists and producers has honed my ability to quickly understand and execute the artist’s vision, while elevating the overall sound to its highest potential.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: bring a unique blend of creativity, technical skill, and cultural influence to every song I work on. Whether it's a full production, beatmaking, or mixing/mastering, I focus on creating radio-ready, high-energy tracks that capture emotion and tell a story. My style is a fusion of global sounds and Brazilian roots, bringing a fresh perspective to any genre. With over 6 million streams on tracks I’ve worked on, I know how to craft music that resonates with listeners, while making sure every detail of the production is polished and professional. My aim is to help artists express their true sound, while ensuring the final track is dynamic, balanced, and ready for the spotlight.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My typical work process is designed to ensure creativity, quality, and collaboration every step of the way: Initial Consultation: We start by discussing your vision, style, and any references or ideas you have for the project. This helps me understand exactly what you're looking for and ensures we're aligned from the start. Pre-Production: After we’ve nailed down the concept, I begin working on the initial beats, melody, and arrangement. I’ll send you a draft of the track (or rough mix) to get your feedback and ensure we’re heading in the right direction. Revisions & Refining: Based on your feedback, I fine-tune the production, making adjustments to structure, sounds, and arrangements. For mixing and mastering, this stage includes refining each element to create a balanced, polished sound. Final Delivery: Once you’re happy with the mix, I finalize the mastering process — ensuring the track is ready for release across all platforms. You'll receive the final high-quality files (WAV, MP3) and any stems if needed. Follow-up: After delivery, I stay in touch to ensure you're satisfied with the final result. If you need any additional tweaks or revisions, I’ll take care of them promptly. My goal is to make sure the process is smooth and that you’re thrilled with the end result.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Apollo Twin X Quad Macbook Pro M2 Neumann TLM 102 KrK Rokit 6
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I'm inspired by a wide range of artists and producers who push creative and sonic boundaries. Kanye West for his fearless innovation and artistic vision, Metro Boomin for his signature sound and consistency, and Rick Rubin for his minimalist, emotion-driven approach to production. I also draw influence from Brazilian legends like Racionais MC’s and Alok, who blend cultural roots with global appeal. These influences help shape my own style — a mix of bold creativity, technical precision, and a deep respect for musical identity.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
