Originally from Gilbert, Arizona, Jacob Johnston is a Los Angeles-based audio engineer, score mixer, and recordist. A 3× GRAMMY-nominated and 2× GRAMMY-winning engineer recognized for precision, musical depth, and hybrid analog-digital workflows. CAS-nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing for the score of White Island: Escape from Whakaari.
Jacob spent three years at Barefoot Recording (Eric Valentine) and three years at Remote Control Productions (Hans Zimmer, Alan Meyerson), contributing to projects including Dune: Part Two, Kung Fu Panda 3, and Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. He has worked on projects with artists such as Aurora, Beck, Sleater-Kinney and St. Vincent, Grace Potter, HOLYCHILD, Andrew Bird, Sky Ferreira, Ben Abraham, Madison Cunningham, The Head and the Heart, Mustard Service, Money Mark, Chicano Batman, and Leonard Cohen.
Now working out of his studio in Glassell Park and across Los Angeles and the Southwest, Jacob brings a deep technical foundation and creative precision to every project.
