Interview with Rebecca Taylor
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Artistic and unique writing. I don't always follow the crowd, so if you're looking for writing thats out of the box and abstract, I'm your person. On the other hand, I can pull off a lot of different sounds and genres, so as a session vocalist, I can deliver what you are looking for within the range of beautiful and heartfelt vocals.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a small but very functional set up. I use a bluebird microphone and I record in Logic. I have an Apollo interface and a Novation Midi Keyboard. It's cozy and comfortable and I always get a very raw and real vocal in my home setup. I am very comfortable with vocal editing and effects, but if you'd like, I can send dry vocals too.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Lisa Gerrard is among one of my favorite artists of all time. She focused on what she was good at and that led her to a world of soundtrack music where she became a legend. Her voice is what you hear on the Gladiator soundtrack and her work with "Dead Can Dance" is breath taking. I appreciate Sia as well for being an artist first and foremost, in her early days with Zero 7, but for her skilled versatility which allowed her to advance in her career. She has written music for some of he biggest names and became a pop icon herself, still staying true to her husky vocals and unique sound. She is a real artist to me and someone I consider a roll model who we all got to see transform and grow as a writer.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Trip-hop, Electronic, EDM, Jazz, Experimental, Progressive, Ambient, New Age.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I work part time with a company writing music specifically for tv & film. We get requests for specific sounds and concepts and usually have a quick deadline. I also get hired to be a session vocalist if someone needs an angelic/ moody vocal. I am very quick to learn the material and usually take less than an hour to track the vocals. If in LA I am available to travel to any studio, but I can send dry files via my home studio to you through drop box or email.

A: Mood, vibe, alluring vocals and unique vocal melody.
