Interview with A-dubb On The Track

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: Currently I'm working on my compilation album set to be released in May, 2024.

  3. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  4. A: I would recommend Luis Moreno for engineering. I have used him as my personal engineer and works with many great artists. I also recommend 8ae and Lisa C. They are both great songwriters and vocalists. I have used them both on songs for a new artist that we are creating an album for. Their writing and vocal production skills are excellent.

  5. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  6. A: I work on pop, r&b, hip hop, house, latin, rock, and a bit of country.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: They both have their advantages. I have and can use both. I do prefer digital these days, however.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I guarantee my clients that they will receive a top notch product and help them in the best way I can within the music industry. I promise my clients that I will work hard for them to create a hit.

  11. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  12. A: I typically ask my clients what style of music they are wanting to do. I like to hear a sample of their voice so that I know which direction to go with the song. And I ask what their career path and history has been like in regards to their music. In addition, I like to know what inspires them and the types of things they care mostly about.

  13. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  14. A: Be sure to choose a producer who is very creative and not just someone who will only add generic sounds to your song. The producer needs to think outside the box and care about his/her music along with the artist that they work for.

  15. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  16. A: I started out being a DJ while at the same time writing lyrics and creating music on the side. From there, and after helping many people with their songs, I started my own label in which I now have a worldwide contract for distribution through Tommy Boy.

  17. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  18. A: Beyonce, Jay-Z, Kanye, Christina Aguilera, Daddy Yankee. They are of the best in the industry and fit my style of producing. With their versatility as artists, together we could create more magic.

  19. Q: What's your typical work process?

  20. A: When creating a full song for one of my artists, we either create a song beat and then form everything else around it starting with a vocal melody. Or we come up with a vocal melody first, and then create the instrumentals from there. Once the song is created production wise and recorded, it then goes to mixing and mastering to be ready for radio and streaming.

  21. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  22. A: My studio is set up with everything needed to create instrumentals as well as vocals. Keys, strings, drum pads, mics, are all included as they should be. Pro Tools, and Logic Pro X. Vocal Chain: Telefunken AR-51, Rupert Neve 511 mic pre, Rupert Neve 551 EQ.. Plugins: Waves, Soundtoys, Fabfilter, Steven Slate, Plugin Alliance, Melodyne, Softube, and more. Hardware Synths: Roland JU-06. Soft Synths: Omnisphere, Serum, Komplete Ultimate 10, Avenger, and more. Monitoring: JBL LSR308's.

  23. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  24. A: My greatest musical inspiration is Michael Jackson due to his talent and hard work ethic. When he was in the studio or on stage, there was always pure perfection. That is what I will always believe in as well. I'm also inspired by artists such as Beyonce, Jay Z, Pink, Kelly Clarkson, Kanye, John Legend, Ed Sheeran, and many others.

  25. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  26. A: Think outside the box. Create music that stands out and makes your audience think about what they've just heard in every aspect of the song. Make them want to hear it again and again.

  27. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  28. A: I worked on a music project that dealt with many issues in regards to things happening around the world. poverty, police brutality, terrorism, war, sickness... I had a chance to travel to different cities and speak personally with individuals that experienced some of the issues. This was all a part of the video in which I was co director.

  29. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  30. A: Creating music for everyone to enjoy. Songs that touch peoples hearts in one way or another.

  31. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  32. A: Customers normally ask to hear samples of music I've produced, how long it takes typically to create a track, and what my costs are. From there, I send them samples. It can take on an average of two weeks to create a good song. Sometimes it may take longer based on revisions requested. In regards to costs, it all depends on the project but I do have standard basic rates to begin.

  33. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  34. A: It's fun but it does take time to create a great song. Nothing should be rushed.

  35. Q: How would you describe your style?

  36. A: Imaginative and versatile. I create music that relates to what's happening in the world music-wise today. Rather it be a love or party song, I create what will make the listener relate to it's sound and meaning.

  37. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  38. A: I produce full songs from conception to songs that are already partially done and just need added work to get them to where they need to be on a high production level. Production includes full instrumentals, song writing, mix and master.

  39. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  40. A: Drum Pad, Keyboard, Guitar, Interface, Mac

  41. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  42. A: My strongest skill is my creative mind being able to create songs and videos that stand out and are award worthy.

  43. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  44. A: The songs that I create are of high quality and are competitive with some of the best songs out on the radio. I create songs based on the voice and style of the artist.
