Jordan McLeod is a music producer, mixer, and mastering engineer. He began by DJing and producing in his bedroom which led to the formation of EDM duo Kids Want Techno. Their music was streamed millions of times around the world and performed at gigs with EDC, The Chainsmokers, Matoma, and more.
Music eventually took Jordan to LA where he attended Icon Collective College of Music. While at school, he began working at The Fab Factory music studio and gained invaluable hands-on experience. As a dream come true, he frequently sat in with legendary Grammy winning mix engineer Dave Pensado to learn everything he could over the course of his time at the studio.
Currently, Jordan freelances while also working at Osiris Studio with 5x Grammy winning mastering engineer Michael Graves. He spends his time shadowing Michael, fine tuning his ears and learning the ins and outs of the mastering process.
In his free time, Jordan writes and produces music for his own project Years of Youth.
Jordan brings knowledge of production and songwriting into the mixing and mastering process; offering a more creative perspective. His decision making focuses on the feeling and emotions of a song, breathing more life into the final version.

Interview with Jordan McLeod
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Kevin Parker. He can write, play, sing, produce, mix, and perform at such a high level.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Musicians: Tame Impala, M83, Daft Punk, The xx Engineers: Dave Pensado, Serb Ghenea, Josh Gudwin, Tom Norris
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I'm not familiar with anyone else on SoundBetter.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Is mastering included in the price of mixing? Yes.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: When it comes to mixing, I like to start with the very basics: setting faders levels and doing basic EQ and compression to build the foundation of the mix. From there I begin to work the vocals, then will add elements back in starting with the drums and building up from there.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My home studio set up consist of Yamaha MSP5 studio monitors, an UAD Apollo Twin Quad, a Custom Hackintosh with Pro Tools 12, Logic X, and Ableton 10. Currently, I work completely in the box with top of the line plugins such as UAD, iZotope, and Soundtoys.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I have been working with an artist called LEADR for over a year and the music is finally started to be released. He is an incredible singer, songwriter, and producer and I am so happy to have been apart of it. I helped produce, record vocals, and mix a few of the songs that are coming.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Know what you are looking, what you expect the final product to sound like. Let me know what you like so far, and what you think needs more improvement. Be as detailed as possible to help me do the best job that I can do.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have been doing this for about 7 years now. I started out DJing when I was in high school and soon started to create my own music. I moved to Los Angeles at the beginning of 2018 to attend a year long music production school and graduated at the end of the year. I worked at The Fab Factory learning from the great mixing engineer Dave Pensado for almost 2 years. I now freelance engineer while continuing to work on my own personal artist project that I hope will be ready to release near the end of 2020.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Don't let your ego second guess creative decisions, feel the music and use that for direction.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: A creative ear that can show you a whole new perspective on your song. If that's not what you are looking for, I will execute your rough mix to perfection just the way you imagined it.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

A: My own solo project.

A: That I do not know what I am doing.

A: It has to be a mix of both. Mixing in the box is a lot easier and efficient, however, there is not denying the warmth and color that analog can provide which is why summing though gear is a great way to keep it alive.

A: Being a hybrid of producer and engineer, crossing two different sets of skills in a way that delivers a unique final product.
