Andrew Byars

Composer/Producer/Engineer

Andrew Byars on SoundBetter

I’m an experienced composer, engineer, and producer with a master's in music composition and production. I’ve scored two feature length films and several shorts. I’ve arranged an opera and mixed tracks in a wide variety of genres. I specialize in creating unique colors, textures, and layers, “vibey” production, and electro-acoustic composition.

I have a bachelor’s in classical composition and a master’s in music composition for the screen. I’m a multi-instrumentalist who has studied a wide array of music. I started out writing songs on my guitar and playing in folk bands with my 12-string, trumpet, banjo, and mandolin. I moved on from there to study classical composition where I focused a lot on romantic era music before becoming enthralled with contemporary composers like Anna Clyne, Arvo Part, Esa-Pekka Salonen and musical groups like Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Failure, and Aesop Rock to name a few.

I am offering to lend my unique point of view and interests to make your project sound incredible. Whether is a subdued score for a nuanced film, or some heavy, in your face, production to get your track screaming, I want to collaborate with you! My goal for every project is create something new and unique with some emotional heft. If you’re looking for straight and in the box, I am not your guy. If you’re looking for something interesting, different, and textural, let’s get into it.

I really enjoy the collaborative process and seeing what each new client brings to a project. Because of this, I am very generous with revisions. I’m happy to work on a project until everyone involved is satisfied with the result. I look forward to collaborating and creating something new!
