  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Tony Mateos is a fantastic drummer and a wonderful person. I highly recommend him for his exceptional skills and professionalism.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Why choose when I have the best of both worlds? I utilize elements from both analog and digital realms in my creative process. Digital technology offers me flexibility and precision in sound manipulation, while analog equipment adds a unique warmth and character. This combination allows me to harness the strengths of both technologies to achieve exceptional and tailored results in each project. The choice between analog and digital isn't a dilemma for me; it's an opportunity to craft a distinctive and high-quality sound.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: My promise to clients is a commitment to excellence and a partnership built on trust, transparency, and dedication. When you choose to work with me, you're choosing a producer who will prioritize your artistic vision and the emotional core of your music. I promise to bring my extensive experience, creative insight, and technical expertise to every project. Your music will receive the same level of attention and care, whether you're an emerging artist or an established name. I guarantee open communication, collaboration, and a relentless pursuit of exceptional results. My ultimate goal is to deliver a final product that not only meets but exceeds your expectations, capturing the essence of your music and leaving a lasting impact.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: What I enjoy most about my job is the opportunity to be a part of the creative journey of artists and musicians. Collaborating with individuals who are passionate about their craft and helping them bring their musical visions to life is incredibly rewarding. I thrive on the challenge of understanding each artist's unique style and translating their emotions into the music. Witnessing the evolution of a project from concept to a fully realized piece is both inspiring and fulfilling. The continuous learning and growth in the ever-evolving music industry also keep me engaged and excited about what I do.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Customers frequently ask me the following questions: "What genres of music do you specialize in?" My answer: I have experience working across a wide range of genres, including pop, urban, rock, EDM, orchestral, and more. My approach is versatile, ensuring that the essence of your music shines through, regardless of the genre. "Can you provide references or examples of your previous work?" My answer: Absolutely, I'd be happy to share references and examples of my past projects. These can give you a better understanding of my production style and the quality of work I deliver. "What is your typical turnaround time?" My answer: Turnaround times vary based on the complexity of the project. I prioritize delivering high-quality work while meeting mutually agreed-upon deadlines. I'm committed to providing updates throughout the process to keep you informed. I focus on bringing clarity, depth, and balance to each element, while ensuring the overall sound aligns with your vision. My goal is to enhance your music's emotional impact and achieve a professional sound. "What sets you apart from other music producers?" Effective communication is paramount, and I ensure that distance doesn't hinder our ability to collaborate closely on your project.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: One common misconception about what I do is that the success of a project solely relies on having access to expensive equipment. While quality gear can enhance the production process, the heart of successful music production lies in the understanding of music itself, creative decision-making, and the ability to bring out the emotional essence of a song. It's not just about the tools; it's about the skill, experience, and dedication that go into crafting a compelling and resonant musical piece.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: When talking to potential clients, I typically ask questions like: - What's the core message or emotion you want the song to convey? - Are there any specific artists or songs that inspire your project? - Do you have any references for the sound or production style you're aiming for? - Are there particular elements you want to emphasize in the mix (e.g., vocals, instruments)? - Are there any challenges you've faced with previous projects that you'd like to avoid? - What's the timeline you have in mind for this project? - How involved would you like to be in the creative and decision-making process? - Do you have any preferences for how the final product should sound (e.g., warm, polished, raw)? - Are there any technical considerations or limitations we should be aware of? - Do you have any additional ideas or concepts you'd like to discuss for this project? These questions help me understand the client's vision and needs, allowing me to tailor my approach to their specific project.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: When hiring a provider like me, prioritize shared vision and effective communication. Look for someone who understands your music's essence and has a track record of success. Ask about their process and tailor-fit services. Remember, a partnership that values your creative vision is crucial. And a tip: never judge solely by equipment in photos. The right provider can bring exceptional results.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: If I were on a desert island and could only take 5 pieces of gear, they would be: 1. A laptop loaded with my software. 2. A pair of headphones. 3. A keyboard controller. 4. A solar-powered refrigerator stocked with food and drinks. 5. And, well, a boat for good measure! 😄

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I am a self-taught music professional, and my journey into the industry began in the 90s. My first professional job was recording and mixing flamenco, a genre deeply rooted in my Spanish heritage. Parallel to this, I was part of a Trip-Hop band that gained local fame. Seeking broader horizons, I migrated from the south of Spain to Madrid, where my unique understanding of music quickly opened doors for me across diverse sectors like advertising, film, and collaborations with top-tier bands and artists. Over the years, I've had the privilege of working in major music hubs like London, Mexico City, New York, Los Angeles, and of course, Madrid.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: My sound is distinctly international. At times, it aligns with top-chart standards, while at other moments, it can be raw, dirty, and aggressive. Regardless of the approach, there's always an underlying 'expensive' quality to it. Yet, I ensure it remains transparent enough so that the artist's unique personality and essence always shine through and prevail.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Among the modern artists, Bruno Mars stands out to me. His fusion of various genres, impeccable vocal prowess, and dynamic stage presence showcase a level of talent that is rare and inspiring. Collaborating with him would be a dream, given the musical depth he brings to every project. However, beyond big names, what truly excites me is the challenge of the creative process. I'm always eager to work with any artist, established or emerging, who is willing to push boundaries, explore new sonic landscapes, and bring a fresh perspective to the table. It's the journey of turning a vision into a tangible musical piece that truly drives me.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: One essential tip I've always adhered to in music production is to listen intently to the song itself. Instead of imposing my own desires or preferences, I prioritize understanding and identifying what the song truly needs. This approach ensures that the essence of the track remains authentic and resonates deeply with its intended emotion and message.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: The spectrum of music I work on is vast, ranging from pop, urban, indie, and rock to orchestral pieces and anything else that piques my interest.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: My strongest skill lies in my unwavering dedication to each project. I work tirelessly, delving deep into the nuances of every song, ensuring that I bring out its full potential and capture the essence the artist intended. Importantly, my work process doesn't discriminate; whether you're an emerging artist or John Legend, I treat every project with the same level of commitment and respect, ensuring that every artist feels valued and understood.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: Nearly 30 years of experience crafting hits and working on films have made me an expert in understanding the artist I collaborate with and their specific needs. I bring a depth of knowledge, a keen ear, and a unique perspective that ensures each song not only meets but exceeds the artist's vision.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: My typical work process begins with initial contact and communication to understand the client's needs and vision. We then discuss references to ensure we're aligned in terms of musical direction. Once we've established a clear path, I work on demos and provide revisions. Throughout this process, I utilize high-quality streaming and video calls to ensure clarity and maintain a collaborative environment.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I own a studio complex in the heart of Madrid, Spain, where I work alongside my team. My personal room is an Atmos-based setup featuring PMC, Amphion, and NS-10 monitors. I primarily mix ITB, but when needed, I incorporate pieces from my hardware collection, which includes brands like Avalon, URE, JBL, Manley, and SPL. Additionally, I boast a vast collection of synthesizers spanning from the 70s to the present day, with notable pieces like the KORG MS-20, various Waldorfs, and analog Rolands. The studio has been acoustically treated with meticulous attention to detail.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Throughout my journey in music production, I've been deeply inspired by a number of industry giants. Max Martin stands out as a monumental figure, with his unparalleled knack for crafting chart-topping hits across decades. His work has set a gold standard for pop music production. On the urban front, producers like Pharrell Williams and Timbaland have revolutionized the sound, blending genres and pushing boundaries in ways that continually inspire me. Rick Rubin, with his diverse and groundbreaking contributions to genres from rock to hip-hop, has also been a significant influence. Additionally, the meticulous craftsmanship of mix engineers like Manny Marroquin, Serban Ghenea, Tchad Blake, and Jaycen Joshua has always resonated with me. Their ability to bring clarity, depth, and character to a mix is something I deeply admire and strive for in my own work.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: There are two typical types of clients I frequently work with, both aiming for that top-chart, 'expensive' sound. The first seeks my expertise in mixing and mastering to give their tracks a polished, professional finish. The second type of client requests that I craft tracks from scratch based on their vision. Regardless of the type, many come to me for vocal production and for guidance through personalized coaching and virtual consultations. They all aspire for top-tier results.
